Return to Learning 2020-21 Update

En español

For the past two weeks, nearly 90 instructional and classified staff have met to share research, review feedback from parents and staff, and narrowed the focus of options as we move forward with education in the 2020-21 school year. The task forces include instruction, health and safety, and parent engagement. Our greatest hope is to return to in-person instruction with modifications in August, however, we continue to develop a variety of models so that we are able to move fluidly between them should conditions change. We know that the rules today are different from yesterday’s rules, and will be different from tomorrow’s rules. We will continue this work in July to work on the specifics. Below are the commitments we are able to make now:

  • Garfield Re-2 views the opening of the 2020-21 school year as a great opportunity to better connect, and work together as a community to support the learning of ALL of our children;

  • Garfield Re-2 will continue to work with the Colorado Department of Public Health, Colorado Department of Education, and Garfield County Public Health to provide a safe learning environment for students and staff while in compliance with all public health orders;

Employment Contracts and Reasonable Assurance

With the 2020/2021 budget approval, Human Resources can now issue employment contracts! Beginning Monday, June 29, 2020, Human Resources will begin this process. Employment Contracts are for all Certified staff and Administrators. If you are part of this category, be on the lookout for an email from TalentEd Records when your employment contract is ready for your signature. If you should have questions regarding your employment contract, once received, please contact Victoria Harbottle at vharbottle@garfieldre2.net

Classified staff that work less than 12 months per fiscal year are subject to reasonable assurance each year. If you have not yet received your reasonable assurance via an email from TalentEd Records, please contact Victoria Harbottle at vharbottle@garfieldre2.net

*Please note that if you are a full time, 260 day employee, reasonable assurance does not apply to you in your position. We are aware that some staff that are not subject to reasonable assurance might have received notification that they had a document ready for signature. Please disregard this email if you are not a Classified staff member that works less than 12 months per fiscal year.

Thank you,

Your HR Team

In Case You Missed it - Every Student Every Day

. . .EVERY STUDENT, EVERY DAY./. . .CADA ESTUDIANTE, CADA DÍA.

These four words are the anchor of the Garfield Re-2 vision statement. It has been the mantra of Garfield Re-2 for nearly two decades.

Every student, every day. . . but what does that mean? It means every child within Garfield Re-2 has equal access to the best possible education we are able to provide. It means every child within Garfield Re-2 should have the resources and the opportunity to achieve dreams they never thought they could accomplish, and above all, it means that every student within Garfield Re-2 feels loved and supported so that when they lose faith in themselves, the faith and belief placed in them by every staff member inside and outside of the classroom is so strong, they are smart enough, they are good enough, and they ARE enough to accomplish whatever they put their minds to.

Garfield Re-2 School Board meetings move to Monday Nights

Beginning July 27, the Garfield Re-2 School Board meetings will move to Monday nights. A complete schedule will be posted on the Garfield Re-2 School Board page shortly.

The Board is also providing additional, live, opportunities for public comment at school board meetings while we are continuing to adapt to public health physical distancing requirements.

Citizens will still be able to send an email to publicaudience@garfieldre2.net and have it read into the record. Emails must be received by 4:30 p.m. the day of the school board meeting and should include your name, physical address and phone number.

***NEW *** Citizens can also comment via Zoom or in person. Board meetings must continue to meet public health guidance and currently - per physical distancing guidelines - we can still have a limited number of people in the board room. However, the Board will take "reservations" for either Zoom or in-person comments during public audience by sending an email to publicaudience@garfieldre2.net by 4:30 p.m. the day of the school board meeting.

Specifics for this new process will be drafted soon.

Ryan Fideldy recommended as next Elk Creek Elementary Principal

RIFLE ‑ At the June 23, 2020 regular meeting, the Garfield Re-2 School Board approved Ryan Fideldy to be the next leader at Elk Creek Elementary effective July 1, 2020.

Mr. Fideldy began his teaching career in the Garfield Re-2 School District in 2006 as a fourth-grade teacher at the former Roy Moore Elementary in Silt, CO. He then taught at Cactus Valley Elementary and in 2012 transitioned to an academic coach at Graham Mesa Elementary school.

Mr. Fideldy will take over for Principal Lisa Pierce who resigned earlier this year to assume the Assistant Superintendent role in Garfield Re-2. Ms. Pierce officially begins her role as Assistant Superintendent on July 1, 2020, and has already begun her work at the District Office.

“Having the opportunity to lead in Garfield Re-2 is something I’ve aspired to do. To follow a close friend and mentor of mine in Lisa Pierce at Elk Creek Elementary is a great honor,” explained Mr. Fideldy.
