COVID-19 Information UPDATES
The following information was included in the SD308 "Parent Update" newsletter on September 24, 2021. There is a great deal of new information and guidance that has recently been provided. Due to these new guidelines there may be some upcoming changes. We will do all we can to keep you informed. We appreciate your continued support and patience as we continue to do all we can to maintain a safe learning environment for your student.
This is also the first week that Executive Order 2021-22 and ISBE’s emergency rules require all school personnel to either be fully vaccinated or undergo at least weekly testing for COVID-19. Schools were required to collect proof of vaccination or weekly test results from all staff members. Unfortunately, the state's SHIELD testing program is experiencing a large influx of districts, so implementation is delayed. Additionally, schools were just notified that SHIELD testing is to be used for student screening at this time, not for testing unvaccinated staff as initially communicated. At this time our health services team is conducting the testing for staff and completing all associated state reporting.
We all know how difficult these last 18+ months have been for students, parents, staff and the community. The continued changes to mandates and recommendations, the increased burden of contact tracing and issuing exclusions, testing unvaccinated staff weekly, and completing necessary reporting is a huge burden.
Our nurses and administrators are unfortunately often the bearers of bad news regarding student exclusion. Please remember that these individuals are simply following the expectations the state has put forth to schools. They are right beside you in frustration for the impact the pandemic is having on us all. However, we ask for you to please be cooperative and kind in your interactions with them. We rely so heavily on the expertise of these great staff members to keep our students safe and well, and they are often working many extra hours to do so.
We kindly ask for understanding and compassion as we all navigate this unfamiliar and changing climate. Remember, kindness is contagious, and a small gesture of kindness can really change someone's day. Thank you!!!!! "
