Thursday February 25th from 5pm to 8pm
Help us fill our class basket!!
Our awesome room parent Jean Sheffick is working hard to get us organized for the Chili Supper and Silent Auction Fund Raiser. Please find below a letter from Jean explaining our plan. Jean can be contacted at email@example.com
This email is long and FULL of information, but stick with me…it’s super important (and FUN!).
The PTO hosts an all-school chili supper and silent auction every year. This year the Chili Supper is Thursday, February 25th. from 5-8pm. There will be chili, crackers, hot dogs and macaroni and cheese available along with drinks and dessert from 5:00-7:00. The silent auction will be ongoing, with the auction ending at 7:45. Entertainment will take place in the auditorium, with the gym being utilized for eating chili and a couple of games/quiet activities.
The PTO asks each classroom to create a themed gift basket for the silent auction. We have chosen an ITALIAN DINNER basket. Here is a list of some ideas that would go nicely in the basket (certainly not all-inclusive…please feel free to get creative!):
Red and white checkered table cloth
Red and white checkered apron
A recipe for homemade sauce and some of the ingredients (shelf stable…nothing fresh)
Alternatively, really nice, gourmet sauce in a jar.
Other italian foods: grissini (those skinny crunchy breadsticks), parmesan or pecorino cheese, extra virgin olive oil, olives, capers, marinated beans/artichokes/red peppers, cured pepperoni, etc.
A gift card to a grocery store to buy ingredients
Gourmet/Artisan pasta noodles
Gift cards to Italian restaurants (Grazie!, Cafe Pizzeria, DeAngelos, Buccettos, etc)
Cooking lessons with a private chef (check out Nourish or Bloomington Cooking School)
Gift Card to Oliver Winery or Big Red or Sahara Mart (We aren’t allowed to put alcohol in the basket, but can put gift cards to places where alcohol can be bought).
Candlesticks and Candles
Italian Music CD
I’m sure you can think of something special and lovely and quintessentially Italian! Please consider what you are able to contribute. This is the biggest fundraiser for our school, and from my experience with this event, the gift baskets that are pretty and abundant go for a good amount of money!
If you don’t have time or want to shop, please consider pitching in money and I can do the shopping!
Tip: any business might donate their item if you ask! Asking for gift cards is the best way to go, and be sure to tell them that their donation will go to the Rogers/Binford PTO Silent Auction to raise money for the needs of the students! It certainly doesn’t hurt to ask!
If you’re shopping, Sahara Mart carries a large amount of imported items, and I know Kroger on the east side has a fairly well-stocked section of imported Italian foods. Goods for Cooks has some neat artisan food items as well.
Lastly, there are a couple of ways we can get the items to me so I can assemble the basket. I would be happy to pick up items from your home, meet you out somewhere convenient, have you drop off to my home, you can deliver to the classroom or you can send things in to school with your child. I would encourage you to avoid sending anything glass or large volumes of things with the kids!! I truly don’t mind coming to get things from you!
THE DEADLINE FOR DONATIONS IS MONDAY, FEBRUARY 22nd!!!! I’d LOVE LOVE LOVE to have our basket donations by Friday, February 19th, if possible.
While our priority is to come up with a gorgeous gift basket, there are also two other opportunities to support this event! One is to sign up for bringing food and the second is for volunteering at the Chili Supper.
