Job description/duties
A freshwater biologists is responsible for protecting and preserving the water quality of our lakes and rivers. Biologist work with individual and local units of government to monitor the health of the waterbodies and install practices to protect and improve the water quality.

This is a green career because a Water Resources Biologist works to keep pollution and habitat loss from ruining the quality of our lakes and rivers.
Advantages
The best part of this job is that Biologists are working toward making the world a better place. Plus, they get to spend a lot of time outside monitoring the lakes and rivers. Another advantage is that every state employees several biologists. This means there are multiple opportunities for employment without having to move.
Disadvantages
The biggest disadvantage to being a freshwater biologists is that jobs are extremely competitive and very few jobs are available other than for state and federal positions. For every job opening, several hundred people pply which makes it hard to get this job.
Interesting Facts
A biologists get to sample several different lakes and rivers in summer time. I think this would be a great place to be on a hot summer day. Biologists need to learn how to identify fish, aquatic plants, algae, and all sorts of critters that live in water. They also get to use equipment like a microscope, meters and even a boat.
