FEBRUARY 15, 2023 - NEWSLETTER
Hello Northpoint Community!
This week we have placed an emphasis on kindness and friendship here at Northpoint. I had the opportunity to teach in a grade 1-2 class yesterday morning. I was touched by our children’s response to the prompt, “How do you like to receive kindness?” Our friends shared the following:
- Being included
- Friends standing up for me
- Don’t judge me by looking at me
- Listen to my ideas
- Help me if I’m struggling
- Greet me
- Tell me you care
What beautiful insights these children offered as to what is important to them. As adults in Spring Lake Park, we have committed to making sure all of our children feel a sense of belonging. To hear this message directly from our students emphasizes that purposeful attention to children’s well-being can’t be taken for granted. I am blessed to be part of a community that prioritizes this.
We look forward to seeing many of you tomorrow and Friday for a conversation about your child’s progress and next steps in learning. We will be sharing your child’s learner profile and a goal or two for the upcoming months. These conversations are so valuable, so if you haven’t had a chance yet to schedule a visit with your kiddo’s teacher, please make an appointment via the sign-up that was sent out or contact the office to get a date on the schedule.
Enjoy the long Presidents’ Day weekend. We will see the kids back at Northpoint on Tuesday, February 21.
With appreciation for your partnership,
Judi Kahoun
Principal
Carline Arrival/Dismissal Reminders
The safety of our students and families is of utmost importance while our students are dropped off in the morning and picked up in the afternoon. Please help us by observing the following guidelines:
- Follow the flow of traffic and do not pass other cars to move to the front of the line
- Family members should not exit their vehicle to help students out. If extra help is needed, please park in the parking lot and walk your student to the building
- Do not stop in the crosswalk
- Handicap spots should only be used for vehicles that are displaying a permit. They are not to be used to drop off or pick up students unless you have a permit displayed.
Thank you for practicing patience and following these guidelines during these busy times of our day.
Preparing the next generation of educators
Through the Teacher Education course in the Health and Human Services pathway, students at Spring Lake Park High School are student-teaching in classrooms across the district as they explore a career in education.
Ashley Stewart returned to Northpoint, where she began her education, to explore teaching as a potential career. Addy Lier is going deep with Spanish Immersion, and Kallie Nielsen is exploring a long-term interest in Special Education. Read the story about how these students are gaining experience inside a real classroom.
"Frozen Jr." coming to the stage
Tickets are available for "Frozen Jr." which will be performed by grade 7-8 students, March 2-4. A story of true love and acceptance between sisters, this musical expands upon the emotional relationship and journey between Princesses Anna and Elsa. When faced with danger, the two discover their hidden potential and the powerful bond of sisterhood. With a cast of beloved characters and loaded with magic, adventure, and plenty of humor, "Frozen Jr." is sure to thaw even the coldest heart! Check out our talented students practicing a musical number!
