May Edition

A LETTER FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Hello Wildcat Families,
We certainly got our share of April showers! Now we’re prepared to welcome those May flowers and all the joyful and exciting events that accompany them! Staff and students returned from Spring Break with a little bit of extra pep in their step and it’s time to buckle-in for the downhill slope to the school year’s end.
It’s unlikely that any faction of our community is looking forward to June 2022 more than this year’s seniors. Please check out our Senior Page for all the senior activities we have planned for the sake of celebrating our hardworking, deserving seniors. High school graduation is one of the first of the stepping stones into independent adulthood. Still, seniors! Don’t forget: you’re not quite there yet. Rather than giving into the “senior slide”, take note at track meets: winners increase their drive as the finish line nears! For those who are not seniors/families of seniors, summer break is nearing. Work hard to finish on a high note so you can enjoy your summer and return to school with confidence in your abilities and future plans.
Tenth grade students and families, please modify your calendars with regard to Math SBA. The dates for testing are May 23rd and May 24th. There will also be Senior Science testing on May 13th. Be sure to get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and come prepared to do your very best.
Go Cats,
OHHS Admin Team

HEALTH INFORMATION
Nick of Time Event
Island Health and our foundation are parenting with Anacortes School District for a Nick of Time event for our high school on May 4th. This is an amazing cardiac screening program for kids aged 12 - 24. We have not filled all the available slots so we would like to offer this opportunity to your students. Here are some details about this program in case you are not familiar.
On Wednesday, May 4th, 2022, Anacortes High School will host a Nick of Time Youth Heart Screening event. We encourage all students, especially student-athletes, to register for a heart screening appointment. Participants must complete the EKG Youth Heart Screening Permission Form and Waiver, submit the Participant Medical History Questionnaire, and drop off the school office or send it to AHS School Nurse Ivee Morgan at: imorgan@asd103.org , by Tuesday, May 3, 2022.
Note: Registration is open to neighboring schools so be sure to register soon if you have not already done so.
Nick of Time Foundation, in partnership with the UW Center for Sports Cardiology, conducts EKG youth heart screenings for adolescents and young adults ages 14 - 24. Screenings consists of a Heart Healthy Survey asking about possible signs and symptoms or family history of a heart condition. An EKG is performed that analyzes the electrical signals of the heart, and the results are reviewed on-site by medical professionals experienced in EKG youth heart screens. A simple EKG can identify certain serious heart conditions that cannot be detected by a stethoscope.
Watch the Nick of Time Screening Promo Video Here.
Attached is a flyer. Feel free to share this information - we welcome all to sign up
