Meet our New Staff!
Sydney Gagliardo
I’ve been a teacher for 9 years in both special education and general education. My philosophy for working with students is that all children can learn; it’s my job to find the how to create a learning environment filled with differentiated instruction that meets each child’s unique learning needs. I enjoy traveling, love dogs, and never met a oyster I didn’t like. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year at MEA.
I am excited to be starting at Mount Everest Academy for the 2022-2023 school year! This year I will be teaching Biology, AP Biology, AP Environmental Science, Art, Color & Design and Ceramics. I feel extremely fortunate to be able to help such a diverse group of learners on their academic journey! I have been a classroom teacher for 23 years, with the last 22 of those years at Morse High School in the San Diego Unified School District. Prior to entering the teaching profession, I spent several years as an environmental consultant and park ranger and love to bring those experiences into my classes.
Outside of the classroom I love to surf, paddleboard, hike and play with Kona, my newly rescued dog. I am married to a writer and college essay coach who was previously a teacher for over 15 years. My two children are currently entering 6th and 9th grade in San Diego Unified and are excited to take on the challenges of their new schools. This is going to be a great year here at MEA, and I am really looking forward to meeting you all.
School Site Council (SSC) and Site Governance Team (SGT)
Looking to support our awesome school with your time? The Mt. Everest Academy SSC and SGT have open positions for one parent. If you are a parent interested in running for School Site Council and/or Site Governance Team, please submit your name and a short (3-4 sentence) biography to Principal Browne at cbrowne@sandi.net by Monday morning, 9/12. Biographies will be shared next week for voting purposes.
The School Site Council consists of elected members representing parents, teachers, students, the school principal, and other school employees. This group is responsible for reviewing the school's improvement plan and allocating fiscal resources to support Mt. Everest Academy's goals in the areas of curriculum development and instruction. The State Legislature, as well as the Mt. Everest Academy teaching staff and administration, believes that the best decisions are made by those individuals who are most affected by them.
The Site Governance Team is a shared decision making body required at each school by the San Diego Unified School District Board of Education. The team discusses issues, gathers input and makes recommendations about topics affecting our school and our children with an emphasis on the instructional program.
The SSC and SGT will meet a minimum of seven times during the year and meetings will usually be scheduled on Wednesdays from 2pm-3pm. As of now, meetings will be held in person, although we may be able to hold them simultaneously on Zoom, depending on the latest direction from the State. Scheduled dates for this year include:
- 9/28/22
- 10/26/22
- 11/30/22
- 1/18/23
- 2/8/23
- 3/8/23
- 4/26/23
We greatly appreciate your willingness to support Mt. Everest with your time!
