Glenburnie PS Update

January 28-Feburary 1

Big picture
In recognition of Family Literacy Day, we are going to join other families in Limestone DSB to "catch our students" reading! Reading is one of the most fundamental skills a child needs to learn, be happy and be successful. What can good reading habits do for your child’s development?
  • Reading develops vocabulary
  • Reading increases attention span
  • Good reading habits prepare children for school
  • Developing reading habits early leads to a lifelong love of books
  • Reading is FUN!

You can participate Jan 27-31, in three ways:

  • Tweet a picture of your child(ren) reading at home with #GrizzliesRead2019 and @Glenburnie_ldsb
  • Send an email to Mrs. Campbel with a picture of your child(ren) reading
  • Write an email or note to Mrs. Campbell to let us know about your child(ren) reading at home

All pictures will be displayed at school to celebrate our Grizzlies reading and all tweets, emails, and notes received by Thursday, Janaury 31st at noon will be entered in a draw to win one of three $15 gift cards to Chapters/Indigo.

Pleae note that "reading" includes family read alouds and listening to audiobooks! And we can read more than books,....ebooks, graphic novels, magazines, etc. It all counts as reading!

Global School Play Day

On Feburary 8th, our school will participate in the Global School Play Day! This day will give us an opportunity to acknowledge the great amount of learning that can happen during unstructured play. Unstructured play helps children develop creativity, passions, problem solving, communication and collaborations skills .

Students may bring one item they wish to play with to school on this day to share with others. The only restrictions: they may NOT bring items that require batteries or electricity. No devices! Here are some ideas: board games, dolls, Legos, blocks, trucks, cars, playing cards, empty cardboard boxes, markers, jigsaw puzzles, blankets (for forts), social games (charades, Pictionary, etc.).

Feedback on School Year Calendar

The Limestone District School Board is requesting feedback about the 2018-2019 school-year calendar and possible options for the 2019-2020 school year. Families in our district are invited to take a few minutes to respond to several questions via an online survey. If you would prefer a paper version of the survey, please contact your school and a copy will be send home with your child, or you could come into the school to fill it out. The survey is open for responses until Friday, February 9. Your input is important to us and we appreciate your time in submitting your feedback and comments. For more information, please visit the school year calendar page on the LDSB website which also provides a link to the Ministry of Education website.
