Principal's Corner
The purpose of our eLearning day last week was to prepare and practice for when winter weather hits and students can't get to school. Based on the feedback from teachers and parents, we will have one last and final eLearning "practice" day on November 13. Thank you to all for working with us as we try to perfect this process.

Trash Bags- $12,000 Fundraiser this year!
A huge THANK YOU to all volunteers that helped with the trash bags. Michelle Wachsmann and Wade Ryle did a lot of work behind the scenes as they have for many years. We also had a strong group helping with distribution which included Jeff Stenger, Paul Farmer, Joe Meyer, Ashley Meyer, Amy Wanstrath, Annette Swain, Jackson Wanstrath, Madison Wanstrath and Jalyn Stenger. We cannot forget all of the student sellers and parents that took the orders and delivered 2,805 rolls of trash bags!
We still have a couple of people that have not picked up trash bag orders. Please contact Natalie Wanstrath if you have not gotten yours yet. nataliewanstrath@gmail.com
SLS T-Shirts
The PTO purchased t-shirts for all the students and staff this school year. The kids should have brought them home. Each grade level has a different color shirt. They will be used for the field trips, spirit days, and field day at the end of the school year.

Shark Tank
Sixth grade Meets Shark Tank.
Students were asked to create an invention that included an energy transformation. They began with research of several different inventions and had to determine what they wanted to include in their own invention. Then as a group, they built their invention out a of a variety of supplies. During our eLearning day, they were instructed to view three clips of Shark Tank to get ideas on how to sell their invention. They presented their ideas to the class and then to the"Shark tank". They were required to "pitch" their idea and be prepared to answer questions. The students had a blast with this project.

8th-Grade Field Trip to IUPUI
On Tuesday, October 23rd, SLS students visited the campus of IUPUI and were given a 2-hour crash course on the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle. Students were broken into teams of three and each team rotated through a series of 12-minute interactive fitness presentations that examined the positive effects of exercise, common injuries that occur during exercise or sports, a detailed look into how to maintain a healthy weight (calories in equals calories out), healthy eating habits and preventing heart disease, as well as a BodPod (accurate BMI machine) demonstration. Fitness Center activities included a treadwall (rotating rock-climbing wall), track and agility relays, the use of cardiovascular equipment Ellipticals, Arc Trainers, stationary bicycles, and numerous relays.

Art
In case you haven't been downstairs lately, I wanted to show you some of the awesome art work that our students have done. Mrs. Frey is doing an amazing job helping them discover their hidden talents! I'll bet some kids would say they are doing better than they ever thought possible. Thank you, Mrs. Frey, and great job students!
