From the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are fast approaching the end of Term 3. The next couple of weeks are going to be very busy.

Next week I have my Principal’s Review on Monday and Tuesday. On Thursday we will have our school Audit where we are audited on a number of standards from curriculum, child safety, through to school maintenance. From this audit St Columba’s then retains its registration as a Catholic Primary School. I would like to thank staff and Mr Yock in particular for all of the work involved in preparing for the Audit.

I will be attending the annual Catholic Primary Principal’s Conference in the last week of this term and Mr Yock will be in charge during my absence.

Several students attended the regional Spelling Bee earlier this week and were wonderful representatives for our school. We congratulate Michael M. for placing first in the Year 6 competition, while in Year 4 Giorgio H. came first and Francesca R. placed second. Well done on their fantastic efforts and many thanks to Mr Yock for organising.

A reminder to families that if they are using the play equipment after school that the school staff do not supervise these areas outside of direct school hours (8:30am -3:05pm). The duty of care rests with family and students; without a responsible adult with them, children are not able to play on the equipment.

Once again, I need to remind some families that they need to adhere to the school parking policy and the street verge signage. Parking is not permitted in ‘no standing or parking' zones and cars that do not follow the street and verge signage face a possible fine from the Ranger. Please abide by the ‘No Parking’ signs along the school side of Forrest St. Your help in this matter is very much appreciated.

We have our Athletics Carnival next week and we will keep our fingers crossed that the weather holds out for us. I would also like to take the opportunity to thank Mr Chatt for the preparation and organisation of the carnival. I am quite sure that it will be a fantastic day.

A reminder, students will finish this term on Wednesday, 21 September and resume school in Term 4 on Tuesday, 11 October. There is a pupil free day on Monday, 10 October.

God Bless and keep safe.

Allen McMahon

Principal

St Columba's Field Day Carnival

Last Thursday students from Year 3 to 6 attended the St Columba’s Field Carnival. The students represented their faction competing in Turbo Jav, Long Jump, Shot Put, and selected students also competed in an additional 200 and 400m race.

The students displayed wonderful sportsmanship, cheering their faction and competitors on. At the end of the carnival Casey is ahead on points that count towards the school athletics carnival.

Congratulations to all the students that finished 1st to 4th in each event receiving ribbons for their achievement.

P&F News

Hi Everyone,

Happy Thursday!

I hope everyone has had a lovely week and are staying well.

Wow - The Fathers Day events last Wednesday and Friday were fantastic. What a wonderful celebration had by all the fathers and father figures. Lots of smiling faces and awesome superhero outfits. A massive thank you must go to Marianne Hale, Lizanne Sivapalan and all the other PP families for making this such a huge success.

Exciting news on the St Columba's Community Garden Front. Our fencing contractor has been engaged, so work will commence shortly on installing a new fence and getting stuck into the ground works ready for the garden. If you have any expertise or passion in this space, please let me know.

Speaking of new installations. Something is coming! The library wall as you see it today, is soon to be transformed. Watch this space :)

Have a lovely week and stay healthy everyone.
