the Oak Ridges Moraine is a conservatory place, it consists of different animals such as birds, dears,butterflies etc. the Moraine is a big help because there are river systems that has clean drinking water for people. There are many trees and plants in the moraine which makes it beautiful and attractive.

why people are concerned for the oak ridges moraine

People care for the Oak Ridges Moraine because of urban sprawl, habitat loss, and from people cutting down trees and they feel bad for the animals and plants that got involved. Over 70 species are endangered and could lose their home, more than 250,000 people will have a short supply of water considering that there are 65 river systems in the Moraine.
STORM (Saving the Oak Ridges Moraine)has been the most concerned about the Oak Ridges Moraine and they want to carry on all their hard work to their children when they grow older and to have their kids enjoy the nature.

There are 1,171 kinds of plant species in the Moraine. People are also concerned about the animals that are experiencing habitat loss because a lot of other people want to build buildings in the Oak Ridges Moraine and that causes animals to find a new home somewhere else. Other people don’t like how there is a lot of buildings being built and they don’t want it to be too crowded where they are living.

STORM ( saving the Oak Ridges Moraine) is one of the groups of people that have wanted to help and save the Oak Ridges Moraine from urban sprawl and habitat loss since 1989. Storm has been working on making conservation plans for the Oak Ridges Moraine with the help of the Niagara Escarpment. Since there has been urban sprawl in the Oak Ridges Moraine many animals have been harmed because of habitat loss and urban sprawl
During the year of 2015 Storm has been working on a conservation plan for the Moraine.
The Moraine Can't Wait: Save the Oak Ridges Moraine
The Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan (ORMCP) is a green based plan established in 2001 by the Ontario government to provide land use and resource management direction for the 190,000 hectares of land and water within the Oak Ridges Moraine Plan area. In 2005, the government created Greenbelt legislation that permanently protected close to 2 million acres within the Greater Golden Horseshoe.In the year 2001 the oak ridges moraine has been working on making a conservation plan for the oak ridges by the ontario government to provide land for the 1900 square kilometres of water and land in the Oak Ridges Moraine. During the year of 2005 the government created the greenbelt policy that will protect two million acres in the Greater Golden Horseshoe.

One of the goals of the Greenbelt Plan is to promote the protection and restoration of natural and open space connections between the Oak Ridges Moraine, the Niagara Escarpment, Lake Ontario, Lake Simcoe and the major river valley lands,


One of the plans is for the greenbelt is to spread the word about protection of natural and open space connection with the Oak Ridges Moraine, the Niagara Escarpment, Lake Ontario , lake Simcoe and the major river valley lands.

Local planning is now collapsing under the pressure from wealthy developers. There is a mounting crisis and the Ontario government must act now to put tough new planning controls in place. Such controls are needed to protect this provincially significant natural area and the quality of life in the GTA.


There are many rich developers so the local planning is collapsing under the pressure of the these people that are developing land which causes habitat loss for all the animals that are living in the Moraine.


Too much development on the Oak Ridges Moraine means habitat loss for hundreds of plant and animal species. Even with over four million people living nearby, the Oak Ridges Moraine is still 30 percent forested. There are so few large areas of forest left in southern Ontario that the Moraine is crucial for the survival of many threatened birds.

In Conclusion please help and prevent the Oak Ridges Moraine from getting even more urban sprawl and habitat loss.
