When we last left off...
SOUND
We worked really hard this week on incorporated our science standard into our study of the mandrill monkeys. We listened to different sounds that monkeys make. Then, we talked about communication and sound. This led to discussion about how sound travels in sound waves. We observed vibrations that sound makes and realized that we cannot always "see" sound but that it travels in waves, much like water waves. We were also very fortunate to have a C7 learner come and share his expertise on the drums and how sound is made on the snare drum.
Learners create their own drums...
Shared reading
Peer editing
This week, we began "peer editing." When learners have completed their journal writing, they go to the peer edit chair and wait for the next learner to be finished. Learners sit EEKK (Elbow to Elbow, Knee to Knee) and read their journal entry. The other learner is looking for periods, capital letters, and details. Then, they switch. The important thing is that learners reread their work and look for corrections. They have done an excellent job reading with one another.
