Principal's Message
Hello Chapman Families,
As our costume parade approaches, I want to remind everyone of our costume rules:
- Students' faces must be entirely visible. No masks allowed.
- No weapons (even light sabers).
- No fake blood or gory makeup.
Please keep in mind that students will be walking outside in their costumes, so comfortable, warm clothing and shoes should be part of the costume or able to be worn underneath.
We are inviting grandparents and special friends to join in on our celebration. We will be having separate events at our main campus and kindergarten campus. Our main campus festivities start at 8:15 with a performance in the auditorium. This will be followed by our costume parade and then there will be time for grandparents and special friends to visit classrooms. All will be wrapped up around 10:00. Our kindergartners at the Ramona campus will start at 10:00 with time for visitors in the classroom followed by a special costume assembly ending at 11:00.
We are so lucky to have a library branch in our neighborhood with a wonderful librarian, Susan Smallsreed, who works closely with our library staff. Here are a few reminders from Susan:
Meet Your Youth Librarian!
Does your child need that just right book? The one that isn’t too hard or too easy and will make them want to keep turning pages, building reading skills as they go? Well, we have just the right book at the Northwest Library. Ask for Susan (Smallsreed), the Youth Librarian and she’ll help you find what you need. That’s right, each branch has a librarian that specializes in helping kids, teens and families get what they need.
Kids and Teens read fine-free at the Multnomah County Library!
Worried about racking up late fines on your library card? Good news! Multnomah County Library no longer charges late fines for any kid's or teen books -- whether they are checked out on a kid, teen, or adult card. All late fines have been removed from library cards for youth ages 17 and younger. Also, all late fines have been removed for kid and teen materials checked out on adult library cards. There is still a replacement fee for lost items. Questions? Come on by any Multnomah County Library branch, or visit multcolib.org. Have questions or concerns about other charges on your library card? Call Multnomah County Library account services at 503.988.5342.

Halloween Costume Swap
No time to DIY? Save your pennies and scare up a Halloween costume at the Chapman Costume Swap. Leave/take a costume in the bins located at the entries of both main campus & the Ramona through Tuesday, October 31.
Be green this Halloween and recycle your used costumes!
Fall Book Harvest
The fall book harvest for the Children's Book Bank if off to a great start! Please continue to bring in new and gently used books for preschool - middle school aged children through November 9. There are drop off boxes in the Chapman foyer and Ramona office.
Thank you to the Portland film community!
Thank you to the Portland film community for their generous donation of $1000 to Friends of Chapman! The local film crews understand filming in our neighborhood is disruptive to drop-off and pick-up and can be frustrating to our school community. This donation is a thank you to our families for their patience during filming.
