George Washington became the first president in 1789, which means he set an example for the future presidents and was born on February 22, 1732. While he was president John Adams was elected to be vice president. George Washington setup the state department, treasury department, and war department. In 1790, members of the congress agreed to build a new national capital on the land beside the Potomac River. He was so good that after his second term of running people wanted him to run a third time but he denied because he thinks that a President should not hold power for life.
