English/Language Arts (ELA)
Theme:
What does it mean to make a difference?
This Week:
We will do more lessons on author's point of view, cause and effect and also before, during and after reading questioning. We will use either Grace for President and Once Upon a Baby Brother as our texts for this
Spelling
The skill this week is Variant Vowels /ü/ and /u̇/. Some examples of words with this skill include: flu, drew, clue, suit, hook, could, put.
Be sure to have your child choose one item from their spelling menu for homework each evening. The activity should be different each night.
The test will include 5 randomly chosen words from the list plus 2 words with the previous week's skill and the 3 frequently used words.
Health
This week:
We will have lessons about playground safety, water safety and how to stay safe around pollution.

Patriot and Defender
A special thank you to Mrs. Holly Hensen for her time this week to help the last of our second graders pass so now all 2nd graders are Stars and Stripes! They will all be recognized during our Memorial Day assembly! Congratulations everyone!
Box Tops
- Box Top collection is ongoing. Feel free to send yours in at any time. We have a container at school to keep them in until counting time.
Volunteer Training
Volunteer training is online again this year! You can go online and complete the training on your own time that matches your schedule. Once you have completed the online volunteer training, you need to print out and bring in the certificate and application to school to be checked and signed. Please allow at least 24 hours from the time the office receives the form for the form to be processed in the front office.
