What's happening this Week !

8:30 Bell - We wanted to make parents aware that instruction begins at 8:30 a.m. Every minute counts towards helping our students do their best. For those parents using the morning car rider drop off option, please use your morning routine time wisely. The line opens at 7:45 a.m. At 8:30, our staff members, that are helping with morning car rider, will have to go inside and begin their day teaching students. When there is no staff to receive your child, please park your vehicle and walk your child inside and see our front office staff. You will record your drop off time, and someone from the front office will escort your child to class. Click here for the student handbook link for attendance, absenteeism, parent notes, tardies/leave earlies, and other need to know information. Reference pages 21-27. Below are some key points.

Purchased Chromebooks - Student chromebooks, purchased by parents, are expected to arrive early this week. Once they arrive at our Technology Department, it will take a day or two to separate and deliver them to your child's campus. We will contact you about the steps to pickup your child's device. We appreciate your patience as we work through these unprecedented delays.

Student ID Cards - Starting this week, we will issue our students their student ID card. The purpose of the ID card is for students to use during lunch (buying a lunch in the cafeteria) and checking out Library books. Using the cards will keep students from touching the keypad device. Teachers will keep the cards in their rooms and develop a procedure for issuing them for lunch and book check out.

Student Masks ( optional ) - As you know, the District email a COVID notification on Tuesday, October 13th that impacted our campus. While MISD is NOT requiring elementary students to wear a face covering, the district wants to encourage our elementary students to consider wearing one. Click here for the letter sent to parents on September 4th. We have spoken to our teachers about reminding students to wear their masks if they see them around their neck. We want to assure you that we are practicing the District's safety guidelines with teachers, staff, and students.

Parent / Public Meeting - This Tuesday, October 20th, Mr. Gassaway will be hosting a zoom call to present an Accountability Report for Bear Branch Elementary. This call will give you a campus account of "where we were, where we are, and where we want to go!" The call is from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and it will be recorded and shared in next week's smore. Below is the zoom link, the ID number, and the password.

October is First Responder's Month. We want to salute and give high honor to our School Resource Officer, Deputy Jarrod Chastun.

He is a family man raising three amazing boys with a beautiful wife in Magnolia. He volunteers at his local church and is always willing to help a fellow neighbor.
