Supporting Students of Poverty
- We will meet in the NIS/INMS Media Center and will begin promptly at 4:30 PM.
- Please bring with you a laptop or iPad - NO need to bring your Danielson book or Beginning Teacher Survival Guide...we won't be using our books for seminar #5
- Please read the chapter attached to the email from Kristin. It's seven pages and will be the foundation of our CAFE activity
- Dinner is provided.
- You will be compensated at curriculum rate of pay per hour for your required attendance at seminar #5.

A. Visual Language with Amie McShane (audience: K - 12) ROOM 3123
Visual Language strategies focus on communicating with students in a pictorial way for behavior supports as well as for instructional purposes. Amie McShane, a graduate of LCSD's Mentor Project, has 5 years of utilizing Visual Language in her classroom.
B. Promethean Board & Activotes with Patrick Limbert (audience: K - 12) ROOM 3122
The focus of this session is on ways to use the Promethean Board and activotes for general classroom management and procedures as well as for engaging students in learning. The session is intended for those with Promethean Boards and who have limited experience using the Promethean board effectively in the classroom. Patrick Limbert, a graduate of LCSD's Mentor Project, has 3 years of experience integrating Promethean Board and Activotes into instruction.
C. Conferring as Assessment with Marcy Doyle (audience: K - 6) ROOM 3125
This session builds on teacher knowledge and experience with Daily 5 and CAFE. Conferring with students is an essential part of assessing students within the Daily 5 structure. Teachers with varying levels of Daily 5 implementation are invited to attend. Marcy always has resources to share. Marcy Doyle, a former LCSD Mentor and classroom where teachers regularly observe, has more than 10 years of experience with Daily 5 and CAFE.
D. Being a Connected Educator with Kristin Becker (audience: K - 12) ROOM 3121
This session emphasizes the importance of being connected with educators outside of our schools and district through the use of social media. Come learn ways to be connected and share how you connect. Come with a laptop or iPad and be ready to sign up for Twitter and Voxer accounts, if you haven't already. Kristin Becker, a K-12 mentor and teacher on special assignment, has connected with educators throughout the US via social media for 3 years and just started using Voxer a month ago.
E. iPad Video Apps with CJ Griffith (audience: K - 12) ROOM 3124
CJ always has something cooking. Come learn from her what new iPad video apps she's been exploring lately. CJ Griffith, district instructionall technology coach, has many years integrating technology into her own classroom. Come with your iPad, or one will be shared with you, and be ready to create videos of your own.

He has experimented with a variety of content areas, projects, and assignments that are generated within and outside of Google Classroom. Come prepared to gain new ideas and to share your own experiences with Google Classroom. Matt Hilgers, currently in his 2nd year in the Mentor Project, has been implementing Google Classroom the 2nd semester of the 2014 - 2015 school year.

The Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics that CJ will present in 40 minutes. :) CJ Griffith, district instructionall technology coach, has many years of integrating technology into her own classroom.
