We Want To Hear From You!
Shelby County Public Schools (SCPS) will host a Community Conversation regarding the Prichard Committee Community Schools grant on February 29th. We would love to have your voice present!
SCPS was one of 20 school districts in Kentucky that was awarded a $1.5 million Community Schools grant from the Prichard Committee. Over the next 5 years we will focus our energy on the 4 pillars of community schools: active family and community engagement, expanded and enriched learning times, integrated student supports, collaborative leadership and practices to support high-quality teaching.
Our goal for the meeting on February 29th is to dream together; build knowledge and excitement together; and identify current community and school assets that already exist in Shelby County. In short, we will begin to collaboratively create a vision for this work, and communicate what our next steps and opportunities are.
Big Smiles is coming to Simpsonville on March 11th. Forms have been sent home with your student. Please reach out to Ms. Oakley if you need another copy. You can also register online!

Simpsonville Family Resource Advisory Council Meeting are held bi-monthly. If you would like an invitation please email angela.oakley@shelby.kyschools.us
The Family Resource Coordinator (FRC) program is built on the foundation of collaboration. The guiding principle in the development of the FRC program is to be community focused – we are to collaborate with other entities in order to effectively serve the needs of our students and their families. The Advisory Council is made up of Parents, Teachers and Community Members.
Our Family Resource Center and its Advisory Council are the key to assuring that collaborative community input and involvement occurs in the planning, implementation and oversight of the FRC activities. The FRC Advisory Council helps the FRC to accomplish its mission:
The Council…
- Provides a broad base of support
- Creates two-way communication between the Coordinator and the community
- Establishes rapport in the community for the Coordinator
- Enables the Coordinator to evaluate ongoing programs
- Makes the FRC community–centered rather than coordinator or school-centered
- Aids in planning and filling programs
- Keeps groups and clubs informed
- Uncovers potential problems within the community
- Unites the community behind a project
- Stimulates organizations to serve people more efficiently
