Seeds of Activism: Alumni Project Promotes Energy Conservation

Galit Ringach (’15) and friends are speaking out about climate change and the need for renewable energy. They visited Upper classrooms recently to talk about their Turn-Off Tuesdays campaign to encourage everyone to unplug electronics at least one night each week. A student at Oakwood School, Galit said she and her group are spreading awareness that this one simple act can "eliminate the amount of energy use and waste, therefore lowering electricity bills and helping the environment." They're visiting area schools and gathering signatures for a petition they'll submit to the Lexus Eco Challenge. Learn more at their website: http://turn-off-tuesdays.my-free.website/

What a great example of how the seeds of activism and citizenship planted at UCLA Lab School continue to grow as students move to middle school and beyond!

Thank You From Magnolia Avenue Elementary School

Dear UCLA Lab School Students, Families and Staff:

On behalf of the parent community at Magnolia Avenue Elementary School, I would like to extend our most sincere gratitude to all of you for your amazing kindness and generosity! We appreciate and admire that students take the initiative to develop a plan based on a belief system to support others. We recognize that the effort behind a food drive is very demanding and takes many people working together to help realize your goals.

Our families are hard working people who do their best everyday to provide for their children and their families. As immigrants to the United States, most families struggle to learn English, find employment and housing, and often struggle to provide for their families. As a result, any additional support these families receive is valued and very helpful.

Your food drive has helped 130 families to receive a little extra food and "cash" (gift card) for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Please know that I am thankful for the partnership your community has developed with our school and I am grateful for everything you do to help others through this food drive, the book sharing program, and the clothing program.

When I grow up, I want to be like the amazingly cool scholars at the UCLA Lab School!

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
