Summer 2017--Volunteer Teaching Mission
Sponsoring Organization
toEnable Inc. is a not-for-profit organization with a mission to empower the world's poor through transformative education platforms.
I truly believe in this particular organization because of the personal connection I share with its founders. Please take some time to visit the website link above and read Wilson's story. Not only has his own life been transformed through the power of education, but because he is a native of Kenya, he knows exactly what his people need and the direction we must take (as a team) to empower this nation!
Need
Education is a powerful platform for reducing poverty and is fundamental for sustaining economic growth.
According to UNESCO, 57 million primary-school-age children are not enrolled in school; 53% of these are girls.
These children are at greater risk for:
Exploitation
Early marriages
Lower income-earning potential
My Mission
To develop the instructional skill sets of educators in the Empash Village & Kibera slum. It is my desire to provide these educators with curriculum resources and encouragement that will enable and sustain the academic, social, and emotional growth of their students. I do not intend to transform their methods, only to build on the strengths these amazing teachers already posses!
A Little About Me!
My name is Sandra Crow and I am a professional educator. I enjoy servicing the needs of others and feel led to pursue my passion of teaching in environments outside of my 5th grade classroom. I have been teaching for 10 years here in Georgia and during this time I have completed various teaching missions during my summer breaks. For these missions, I have had the pleasure of traveling to Ecuador, the Philippines, and now I will travel to Africa with the purpose of developing the educational needs of the teachers and students in various villages and slums in Kenya. If you would like to share a note of encouragement, prayer, or blessings- please feel free to get in touch with me via any of the communication methods I have listed below.
I have partnered with Lake Joy Elementary School (my school) and we are working together as a school community to collect various items that would benefit the students and teachers within the villages. You can read more about our project by clicking this link: School Project. I am amazed at how creative our students are! Click the following links to see a sample of their work!
Finally, there are a few personal items I am still in need of, as I prepare for my upcoming volunteer mission. If you feel led to donate any of the items on my wish list, please click here. In order to foster awareness on this subject, please feel free to share this website with your friends and family!
Thank you for your support!
xoxo
