Lakeview Elementary - We Know Every Child by Name & by Need

October 13, 2017

Hello Lakeview Families!

We finished up another great week at Lakeview. We started our Friday with a Pep Rally to kick-off our Bobcat DASH fundraiser. The kids are super excited - although I am still a little nervous about the students turning me into a human sundae! A HUGE shout out to the BNHS Cheerleaders and Football Players who came to spread some Bobcat Spirit!

Learner Qualities in the "Real World"

Big image

We want to hear from you!

Here is a short video describing The Learning Pit.

We are always looking for ways we can bring in relevant lessons to our students. Each month we focus on a Lakeview Learner Quality - for October we are looking at the importance of The Learning Pit. If you "get stuck and problem solve" in your everyday lives or in your careers, please click HERE and enter a description of how you persist and grow why those skills are important. We will share your replies with our teachers so they can in turn share them with our students. Please include your name and your profession in your email. We can't wait to read them!

Many Thanks!

October Learner Quality - Going Through The Pit

I think that of all learner qualities we share at our school, having a sense of grit and determination is my favorite. Having grit means we don't give up when things are hard for us. Grit means that we believe, if we work hard enough, that we can accomplish any goal. In the classroom, grit means working your way through "the pit". You may hear your child say, "I was in the pit today". That means they struggled through a concept or new idea. Sometimes you may hear, "my teacher didn't help me today". It is true that we do want our students to have productive struggle as they stretch their thinking and learning. However, we do not want students to get so frustrated it makes learning impossible. Your child's teacher know your children well and work to make sure they stretch them just enough to let them feel success as they work themselves out of "the pit".

Compulsory Attendance

We understand students miss school for various reasons. However, please understand that if your child has missed more than 8 school days (excused or unexcused) you will receive a letter from Lakeview regarding attendance. As the state requires students to be in attendance 90% of the year, Lakeview will continue to follow state guidelines regarding this issue. If you have any questions we are happy to talk you through the process.

Absence notes are due no more than 3 days after the date of the absent. After 3 days, the absence will be marked as unexcused.

Ride Changes

Big image
Parents please be sure to send an email to LakeviewElem@nisdtx.org and your child's teacher by 1:00pm to communicate ride changes. We will not release students to ride changes without confirmation from parents regarding ride changes.

Birthday Treats

Big image
We love celebrating birthdays with our students! When planning on bringing in birthday treats, only pre-packaged store bought products are allowed. To ensure there is time to distribute birthday treats to classrooms, please have them in the office no later than 2:00. We are unable to hold ice cream or popsicles so please do not send treats that will melt. Also, if a treat does not have a label of ingredients it will not be shared with the class. Due to allergies we must know the ingredients for ALL treats. Due to sensitivity no balloons are allowed in the building.

Facebook and Social Media

Social media is a great way to keep up with and in contact with friends and family. When you are posting regarding Lakeview, please keep a few things in mind:

1. Think before you post, your words have power.

2.Do not post pictures or information of children who are not yours. Privacy is important so do not post pictures or information about other students without parent permission.

3. If you have a question regarding events or information regarding Lakeview, your best bet is to always email your child's teacher or call the front office.

4. If you are unhappy with a situation or would like to share a concern, please always email your child's teacher or contact our front office.

5. Finally, stay positive. No one benefits when community members disagree on line.
