Boys Basketball Stays Unbeaten in Area Play
Coach Marcus Thomas’ Boys Basketball team won its fourth straight game on Friday night as they defeated Huntsville 65-46. With the win, the Huskies improved to 12-3 overall on the year and 3-0 in 7A Area 7.
Huntsville got off to a quick start and led by seven points in the opening quarter. The Huskies battled back to take a 15-11 lead as the first quarter buzzer sounded. The second quarter was hard-fought and low scoring. Hewitt hit some key free throws to take a 22-18 lead into the locker room.
The Huskies offense took the game over in the third quarter. Coach Thomas’ team shared the ball well and scored 19 points in the quarter. Malachi Moore hit a long three-pointer at the buzzer to give his team a 41-24 lead. Hewitt played a solid fourth quarter to pick up the win. Damon Harper scored a game high 21 points. Jaxon Hunter also had a good night as he added 11 points.
Coach Thomas was pleased with the effort his team gave. “The guys are showing that they really enjoy playing for each other. No one person is elevated. It is a true brotherhood.” The Huskies will be back at home on January 9 as they host Minor. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm. Girls Basketball Picks Up Key Area Road Win
The Hewitt-Trussville Girls Basketball team traveled to Huntsville Friday night for the first time this season. It proved to be a successful trip for the Huskies as they came away with a 72-34 win over Huntsville High. The win improves Hewitt’s overall record to 16-2. The two teams entered the game tied for first place in the Area. The Huskies are now 3-0 in the Area and sit alone in first place.
The two teams traded baskets early in the game. Erica Jones paced the Huskies with six first quarter points to put her team ahead 19-15. Hewitt continued to build on the lead in the second quarter. Christina Till hit a long three-pointer just before halftime to put the Huskies ahead 40-20.
Coach Tonya Hunter’s team continued their fine play in the third quarter. As a team, Hewitt scored 28 points in the quarter. The offense shared the ball well and the defense was outstanding. London Coleman hit two three-pointers in the third quarter. Coach Hunter said, “This was a crucial win with both teams coming in at 2-0 in the Area. We had to come up here and be road warriors in order to earn the win. This puts us in a good spot in Area play.”
The Huskies had a balanced scoring attack as they had five players score in double figures. Erica Jones led the way with 15 points. Amiya Payne added 14 points, Morgan Kirk scored 13 points, London Coleman scored 12 points, and Leah Harrison netted 11 points.
The Huskies will be back on the road on Friday January 12 as they travel to Gadsden City for another Area game.

Wrestling Performs Well in Hoover Event
Coach Dave Barden’s Wrestling team traveled to Hoover High School this weekend for the 2018 Scott Rohrer Hoover Invitational. The Huskies finished the two-day event in 7th place out of 26 teams. The team will be back on the road on January 11 as they head to Mountain Brook for a Dual Match.

*Seth Hall placed 5th in his weight class and earned 68.5 team points
*Logan Reaves placed 9th in his weight class and earned 54 team points
*Caleb Hammond placed 6th in his weight class and scored 64 team points

Boys Bowling Wins Area
Boys Bowling
The Hewitt-Trussville Boys Bowling team, coached by Tommy Abney, picked up another win on Monday. The Huskies prevailed over Pinson Valley 1202-1125. With the win, Hewitt improved to 11-5 overall on the year and 9-1 in the area. The win secures the Area 12 title for Coach Abney's team.The Huskies were led by Jordan Faggard who bowled a 195. Later this month, the team will travel to Tuscaloosa for the AHSAA Regional Tournament.
Girls Bowling
The HT Girls Bowling team defeated Pinson 1055-1015 on Monday to improve to 9-6 overall on the year and 8-2 in Area play. The Huskies were led by Aliyah Brown who bowled a 167 and Kendall Sedran who bowled a 155.
The Girls will travel to Vestavia on Wednesday for the Rebel Roll event.

8th Grade Girls Basketball Remains Undefeated
Katie Flannery hit a three-pointer in the first quarter and ended up with a game high 14 points. Kenleigh Cahallan hit two three-pointers in the second quarter and scored eight points in the game. D'yona Jones also added seven points for the Huskies.
The team will return home to face Liberty Park on January 9. Tip-off is set for 5:45pm.
