A Note From Mrs. Pearson
Greetings Eagle Families,
We are approaching our final week of eLearning. All classes will end on May 15th. Students must have all assignments finished by the end of the day. Teachers will work the following week to enter completion grades for students. Unfortunately, we are unable to have an awards ceremony for 4th quarter due to school closure. We are very proud of our students during this time. I'd also like to thank our teachers and parents, as you all have had to work together to ensure learning continued in March, April, and May.
You will be able to pick up student items on Tuesday. Please see below for the schedule. We will honor our sixth graders during this drive through pick-up. They will also receive a promotion certificate with their items.
Don't forget you can pick up a week's worth of breakfast and lunch for each of your children on Mondays, from 11:00-12:00. Just pull up to the front of the building and we'll bring the bags to you!
Continue to stay healthy, socially distant, and safe,
Mrs. Jennifer Pearson

Student Item Pickup
You will enter on Folz and line up on the edges of the parking lot. When you circle around and get to door 4, we will assist you. If you have seen the car rider process, it is exactly the same.
Some staff members will be outside during the 6th grade pick-up time to cheer on all of our Eagles heading to the DMS next year. Please bring your student along to say goodbye.
Registration
Online registration continues through Friday, May 22nd. You can go online and register at any time, day or night at DecaturProud.org.
Online registration allows you to enroll from the safety of your home, not requiring you to go out in public to accomplish this task, maintaining the safety protocols during this global pandemic.
If you register now for next year, you will be able to keep your child’s iPad and MiFi for the summer.
Medication Pick Up
If you wish to request to pick up your student's medication please call (317-241-0183) or email (jlovell@decaturproud.org) and provide the following information:
1.) Student name
2.) School
3.) Guardian's name
4.) Phone number
You may be in fear that your student's medication is being thrown away. This year, you have the option to leave the medication in the clinic over the summer. Unlike years past, we will not be throwing away medication at the end of the year. If a student is moving to another school within the district in the fall (ex.Liberty to Gold), we will hold the medication for the student in a locked cabinet at the new school. Parents will still need to fill out a medication administration form for the 2020-2021 school year prior to medication use. If the medication has expired over the summer, the family will be contacted and let know that we cannot administer.Summer Slide
What is summer slide? It is a backward slide that students can make in their reading skills over the summer. Students can regress two to three months in their reading level during this time. This is of particular concern this year, as students have not been in their school buildings since mid-March.
The good news is that it can be avoided. Stop the slide by having your student read for at least 20 minutes per day this summer. This can be difficult when the public library is closed, and that is why your school library/media center has a list of free eBooks. This list can also be found on our page at www.decaturproud.org. Many of these eBooks have read-aloud features, which can benefit struggling readers. There are lots of choices of books here, and that is important, as the number one reason that a student is motivated to read a book is that they were able to choose it themselves.
We also encourage you to join the Indianapolis Public Library summer reading program, which will take place whether the library buildings are open or not. Please check their website at www.indypl.org in the coming weeks for details.

DTEF Fundraiser for Teacher Appreciation
As another month of e-learning begins, we are hearing more every day about how valuable our teachers are! Our school buildings may be closed, but thanks to teachers, school is still in session. They are going above and beyond for their students in ways we couldn't have imagined.
Let’s honor Decatur Township educators with messages of support! Let them know how thankful you are for their vital work by sharing a few kind words.
As a fundraiser for the Decatur Township Educational Foundation, you can submit a Teacher Tribute by following this link. https://tinyurl.com/DTEFTeacherTribute
Once the submission process is completed, we will create an acknowledgement and share it through our social media channels, as well as notifying the teacher and their Principal through email.
Together, we can show our appreciation for teachers.
Thanks for supporting DTEF and our teachers!
