Sand Ridge "Shark Bites" Update
September 19, 2021 - Issue #4
There are several important events/announcements this week I would like to share with you.
- Monday, September 20, 2021 is the 20th day of school and also Federal Impact Count Day. This is the day that we send "federal cards" home with EVERY student. All schools in Onslow County (and other districts/states located near federal installations) participate in this count annually. Please complete relevant areas, sign and return this card as soon as possible. Cards are required of all students, regardless of federal connectedness. If you have questions about how to complete the card, please see any directions that come with it, contact your child's teacher, or contact the office. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
- Tuesday, September 21, 2021 is our second School Leadership Team Meeting of the year. We meet at 7:00 am in the Media Center and are still in need of parents to participate. If you are interested, please call or email Mrs. Gartner at 910-326-5199 or denise.gartner@onslow.k12.nc.us. If you are unable to meet at the 7:00 am time, I can arrange a separate time to meet with you to discuss our agenda and get feedback.
- Thursday, September 23, 2021 will be our first Lock-Down Drill of the year. We are required to hold four of these drills each year and this will be our first. This drill is not designed to frighten our students and we will not allow students to think that there is an intruder on campus. This drill will not include law enforcement, except for our assigned SRO, Deputy Smith. Our drill will be held between 8:40 and 9:00 am. During the drill, no one will be permitted to enter or leave the building.
- Thursday, September 23, 2021 will be the first Early Release Day of the school year. Dismissal will begin at 12:10 pm. There will be NO Boys and Girls Club on campus that afternoon. Please remember that ALL transportation changes MUST be made in writing.
- Sand Ridge will be participating in "Start With Hello" Week this week. Information can be found below.
Last Tuesday, we held a PTO meeting where we hoped to elect a new board and begin the PTO. Unfortunately, we had only four parents in attendance and were unable to select and install a board. Without a board (president, vice-president, treasurer, secretary) we CAN NOT have a PTO.
- Without a PTO, fundraising will be diminished, which impacts improvements to benefit the school/community. PTO is responsible for the covered walkway along the carpool drop-off, our water bottle filling stations, and most recently purchased a large shade for our playground (which is delayed due to COVID, but anticipated in the next few weeks).
- Without a PTO, many of the events that students, staff and families look forward to will not happen. Fall/Spring festivals, Santa Shop, ice pops on Field Day, Popcorn Fridays (when permitted again), Christmas movie nights, etc.
Our next PTO Meeting will be Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at 6:00 pm. Please consider how you can be a part of the PTO, attend our next meeting and help Save our PTO.
Thank you for your continued support of the Sharks! Have a wonderful week!
Denise Gartner
Principal
