English II Honors: This week, students finished up their study of Elie Wiesel's Night. As we move closer to final exams, we are finishing up our last novel study of the post-modern hero with F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby. We continue our review prep for the End-of-Course with some Constructed Response practice next week, and benchmarks on Thursday, May 2nd. Students should be working on their electronic writing portfolios which are due on May 10.
English IV Honors: This week, students continue their study of H.G. Wells' science fiction work, "The Island of Dr. Moreau." We also began a brief unit on Modernism. We continue to review and prep for our final exams with our study of Henry James' short work, "The Real Thing." Students have their culminating research projects due on May 3, with a graded peer review on May 2nd. Students should be working on their electronic writing portfolios which are due on May 10.
Math
HM3: Currently the average grade in each class is an 87. Students will begin Unit 6 Statistics on Monday. On May 1st, students will take a county benchmark. This test will help me know what concepts to review before the exam.
HM4: The Chapter 7 test was not given last Friday due to the large amount of students participating in Science Olympiad. The test will now be on Monday, April 29th. On Friday, May 3rd most students will be taking a college placement test to determine if they can place out of Math 171 at Coastal Carolina Community College.
Science
APES: We have finished all of our units of study and will spend this coming week reviewing for our AP Exam (May 6). Students will have a 6th 6 weeks Test on Friday. Also don't forget the APES Exam review on Saturday May 4th.
Chemistry Honors: We are finishing up Unit 10 and will take the Unit 10 Test on Tuesday April 30. Once finished we will finish with our combo Unit 11/12/13-Acid/Base, Nuclear Energy & Redox.
Biology Honors: Students are finishing up with our last set of notes. They will have a Ecology Research Paper assigned Monday and due on May 6th. On May 3 they will take their last test (Natural Selection, Classification & Ecology). They also have their Biology EOC Review Packet to work on, it is for a test grade.
Social Studies
APWH: Students have completed Period 6 and tested Thursday/Friday. APWH EXAM REVIEW will begin Monday/Tuesday with Periods 1&2 and then each day after we will review an individual Period. There will be an in-class APWH FINAL EXAM during the last week of school and the APWH EXAM is May 16. We will take the 2018 APWH EXAM for practice on Saturday, May 11 (830-1200). Multiple exam review resources have been loaded in TEAMS. Students have been encouraged to make a study schedule & be diligent in “planning their work and working their plan” which will be very important in their college studies.
AH-1: We have concluded the Civil War and tested Friday. Students will have Monday to complete their Unit VII work and submit to Teams & their folder. We will study post Civil War Reconstruction for the next 2 weeks and spend the last week reviewing for the AH-1 Exam (Friday, May 17).
Civics and Econ Honors: Our market simulation was rescheduled for April 29th. This past week, students began to look at Personal FInancial Literacy (PFL), learning how to retire wealthy and making their money work for them (instead of them working for money). We will finish up PFL this week and transition to our last topic, microeconomics.
Final exam resources have been posted on Teams. Please encourage your students to study a little bit each night, rather than cramming at the end of the course. The North Carolina Final Exam is worth 25% of their grade!
