Letter from Principal Nelson
Smallville!
I’m writing this to you whilst I monitor students celebrating the season and community at Small-o-ween. And yes, I am wearing a Batman costume. And yes, it is the one from Justice League since both Batfleck and I have grey hair. And yes, I count as many as two Jokers running around (one is a student, the Joaquin Phoenix version) and one is a teacher (Mr. Shoptaw honoring Ledger’s take). Wait! What’s that…I have just found two Harley Quinns and one Two-Face making their way to concessions. I’ll be back...Gotham...err, I mean Smallville needs me.
I’m back, Alfred...I mean Cougars.
This week may very well have been your student’s favorite week of the year, and with good reason. We’ve dressed up each day (thanks Student Council) and everybody on campus is alive with the positive vibe that only sharing fun and building community can create. Our staff is just as excited as our kids are and the fact we are all sharing this experience together can only bring us closer together. Misery loves company, but not near as much as it loves dressing up in crazy outfits.
Kids are having fun and getting a kick out of this year’s Small-o-ween extravaganza. They’re being social, dancing (especially to the group ones) and they’re all complementing each other’s costumes. True, this evening is different than ones in the past, but the fact we are able to offer something similar to the event is a testament to our staff and students’ willingness to be flexible and creative. We hope to one day return to the pageantry and controlled chaos which is your typical Small-o-ween, but this current one is certainly an exciting event for all involved and hopefully a reminder to your student that we care for them and want to celebrate them.
Oh no...the Bat Symbol is out! Looks like they’re finally playing the Cha-Cha Slide. Gotta run.
Have a great weekend, be safe, and remind your student that if they bring their bounty from Sunday to school next week they are expected to throw their wrappers in the trash and to share any and all Twizzlers with yours truly.
