SDE NEWS
Week of 9/27/21
STEAM CLUB KICKOFF!
WE ARE GROWING!!
SDE Families,
We are growing at an unbelievable rate! We began this school year with FIVE additional teachers! Based on our 20 day headcount, we are adding three additional teaching positions in the upcoming weeks! These positions are reserved for grades 1, 3 and a 4/5 combo! This means there will be changes coming at these grade levels. Because of this, we will be adding additional portable classrooms. As we plan for and hire new teachers, you will be notified if your child will be impacted.
Important Weekly Reminders:
1. Our winners of our Federal Card challenge are Mrs. Cooper and Mrs. Lancaster classrooms. These classrooms are the recipients of a special treat! If you have not returned you Federal Card, please send them in as soon as you can. Thank you for helping us! Completing the Federal Impact Aid Survey supports your child's education by providing the school with additional funding for programs, materials and services!
2. Permanent Car Tags have been distributed. Please destroy temporary tag that expired on September 10th. Any parent or guardian picking up students from the car pool lane must have the NEW 2021-2022 tag. If you need tags, please contact the front office.
3. Access to remote learning information for quarantined students can be found in the grade level weekly newsletter and teacher webpages on the school website.
4. Face Coverings are required for all Students, Staff and Visitors.
5. Please be REMINDED: State law requires that all school campuses in North Carolina are TOBACCO FREE. Please refrain from smoking, vaping or chewing while on SDE campus. This includes the Car Pool Lane. Thank you!

Leader In Me - Habit 1- Be Proactive!
Be Proactive means to take responsibility for your choices and behaviors. Habit 1 is the key to all of the other habits; that’s why it comes first. Be Proactive says, “I am in charge of my own life. I am responsible for whether I am happy or sad. I can choose how I react to other people or situations. I am in the driver’s seat.”
Young children can easily learn to understand that different choices yield different results. The goal is to teach them to think about those results before they decide what to do. Discussions can focus on taking care of themselves, taking care of their things, reacting or not reacting to others’ behavior, planning ahead, and thinking about what the right thing to do is. With your child, think of ways to Be Proactive at home.
