HAVE YOU HEARD THE EXCITING NEWS?
Hello Family and Friends,
I hope this letter finds you and your family well. My name is Marcy Mayeux and I am the newly appointed band director here at St. Margaret Mary School. This is will be my first year with the school and twelfth year of teaching overall and looking forward to an amazing start in a new place. I grew up here in Slidell and cannot wait to build this program once again!
Our band program has been absent over the last couple of years due to the pandemic and from what has been gathered, the faculty, staff, and families of the parish have been missing this program tremendously. This band was known for its excellence in musicianship, was one of the most present performing groups in the community and was very valued by those in the band and around it. It will take hard work and dedication to rebuild this program, but I am eager to get started.
So how do we start? We are holding band screenings May 24-27th from 8am-12pm in the band room and you will sign up for a slot using SignUp.com (below). This opportunity is vital to joining as we are figuring out which instrument would best fit your child. They will be allowed to try the instruments and given feedback as to what they would be most successful playing. Your child will be given a “score sheet” once screening has been completed to help select your instrument. Once you have selected your instrument, use the QR code above to get to the band site. From there, click “information,” then scroll down to the link for the google form, fill it out and submit. By June 15th, you will receive a welcome packet that will include an instrument buying/renting guide to help.
If you are unable to meet during the posted times on SignUp.com please email me so we can set up an appointment to complete this. I live very close by and it really is no trouble setting up an alternate time and date. Band screenings are just an opportunity to see which instrument would be the best for for your child based off of what they already do well. This is not to pass or fail anyone. In fact, I have never had a student that could not be taught. In the past, my students LOVE band screening because they get to play on the instruments and ask questions. It is a fun event! No stress:)
I look forward to meeting all of you!
Musically Yours,
Marcy Mayeux, Band Director

Sacred Relics of the Saints: Treasures of the Church
St. Margaret Mary Parish presents a teaching and exposition of Sacred Relics on Friday, June 10 at 7:00 pm. Father Carlos Martins, a Vatican-appointed expert on relics will be here with an extraordinary Vatican collection of over 150 relics, some as old as 2,000 years. Among the treasures will be relics of St. Joseph, St. Maria Goretti, St. Therese of Lisieux (the “Little Flower”), St. Francis of Assisi, St. Anthony of Padua, St. Thomas Aquinas, and St. Faustina Kowalska. There will also be a portion of the Veil of Our Lady and one of the largest remaining pieces of the True Cross in the world. Those in attendance will be able to examine and venerate each relic. Throughout history, many healings have been worked in the presence of relics; and thousands have occurred through this ministry. Do not miss this opportunity. You are encouraged to bring your articles of devotion (such as rosaries, holy cards, etc.) and pictures of ill friends/family members, which you will be able to touch to the reliquaries as a means of intercession. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
