what is water pollution?

surface water such as the water in rivers and lakes can be polluted by waste from cities, factories, and farms. pollution is the introduction of harmful substances into the environment, and often water can become so polluted that it is unuseable.

The Types of water Pollution

polution that comes from one specific source is point-source pollution. for example, wastewater that is released from a factory is point-source. this type is usually much easier to controll and regulate. nonpoint-source pollution is pollution that comes from many sources. this type of pollution is much harder to control because it does not come from a single source. examples of nonpoint-source pollution include agricultural and urban runoff, land clearing, construction, and forestry.
