News & Notes from Mrs. Kapuchuck
We had a great return from the Thanksgiving break. I hope that you and your family have enjoyed a wonderful weekend. The next ten days will surely fly by. This Tuesday, our second and third graders will put on a Polar Express performance for the entire school at 1:45 and then again for parents and families at 6 pm. Ms. Enke has worked so hard with our students and I have been able to watch some of the classes practice in the music room. I can assure you that you will love it!
If you have Attractions Books that you are not purchasing, please send these to the school ASAP. Books are $20 if they are not returned. The Attractions representative will continue to fill any last-minute orders that come in!
The next two Fridays are Early Release days for students. Students will be dismissed at 1:00 pm.
This Friday, students in the winning Houses for Grades 3, 4, and 5 will come to the cafeteria for a Mid-Year celebration. During the celebration, students will have a choice of hot chocolate and/or Reindeer Mix.
The ingredients for the Reindeer Mix are listed below:
Rice Chex cereal
Cheerios cereal
Pretzel pieces
M&Ms
White Chocolate
Students will find out if their House is the winning House on Thursday and they will communicate this to parents. If your child is allergic to any of these items and needs an alternate snack, please feel free to send one in or let me know so that we can provide an alternative. Students have worked so hard to earn House points so far this year and we look forward to letting them have a small celebration!
Thank you for sharing your children with us. Our school is the amazing place it is because of them! We look forward to seeing their bright and smiling faces in the morning.
Have a wonderful week!

Parenting Corner
Is my child ready for a cell phone?
With the holidays right around the corner, a lot of parents are asking this question. A lot of students are also asking for cell phones! Believe me, I know this first hand!
Most experts recommend waiting until at least 8th grade. In fact, there is an entire movement related to waiting until this age: https://www.waituntil8th.org/ The justification for waiting this long can be found here: https://www.waituntil8th.org/why-wait/
Technology is great in that it allows us to access all of the information we need at the click of a button. However, we are responsible adults who know how to navigate that information. For our children, unmonitored access to technology through a cell phone can quickly lead them to information we would never allow them to be exposed to. As parents, if we are not able to take the time to closely monitor our child’s behavior online, we probably don't want to give them a phone. It’s like giving them the keys to the car and saying, “Have fun learning to drive!”
PLEASE TURN IN ALL ATTRACTIONS BOOKS ASAP!
