Artemus Ward Weekly 11/9-11/13
Every Scholar, Every Moment, Every Day!
Native American Indian Heritage Month
Principal's Message
Staff,
This past week we worked together to analyze some of the more innovative practices associated with formative assessment in the remote learning environment. In the upcoming weeks lets put those skills to the test. Challenge yourself to exercise a new formative assessment practice with your scholars. Complete the process by analyzing the results, modifying your instruction, and making on the fly adjustments to meet your learner's needs.
In this day and age it has never been more important to understand the concept of digital citizenship, what it means on an instructional level, and what it looks like from a student's perspective. I have included a link below with some great information on the topic. Take a moment to read it and begin to familiarize yourself with the concept (if you haven't already). One philosophy of thinking states that it is more impactful to model and teach what we should be doing instead of continuously focusing on what not to do. Be sure to take some time during your morning meetings to discuss the tenants of digital citizenship and create a road map for your scholars to demonstrate what it means.
This Monday we will begin student run announcements. I will forward you the video link the night before to air during your morning meetings. We recorded Monday's and Tuesday's this afternoon (Saturday). Unfortunately there is one error on the date of Monday's announcement that we caught after they were recorded. The girls were not available to go back and fix it so we will have to roll with it. If you or your students would like to host and record on a given day please let me know. I would love to have different grades and teachers host, and I'm sure the students would love it as well.

Digital Citizenship
Happy Birthday! to Mrs. Davis & Mrs. Carter
Updates by Mrs. Cree
K-3:
You should already have received your zoom link from me if we have a data meeting scheduled. If you have not already done so, please contact me ASAP to confirm a time on Tuesday. We will be talking about Aimsweb and RIMP data. I am attending a RIMP meeting on Thursday so I am hoping to have all meetings completed by Tuesday.
NWEA / Exact Path
All students that took the Fall NWEA should have a learning path that has been uploaded to Exact Path. Training on this individualized resource will be offered in the near future.
Resource Pick-up
If you have supplies that families need to pick up for the 2nd quarter (mainly Eureka math books), please remind your students that they are still available for pick-up. It is a close race so far and a reward will be given to the first homeroom teacher that has 90% of their class pick up their supplies. So far we have a very tight race - all tied for 2nd place are Mrs. Herbele, Mrs. Davis, Ms. Cheverine and Mrs. Naz but the leader by one extra student is ...... Ms. Kautzman. Great job in encouraging your families to come up promptly!
Special Education
The District’s Special Education Department has purchased DocuSign to facilitate the collection of electronic signatures on IEPs, ETRs, and supporting documentation. We are getting ready to launch DocuSign over the next week. DocuSign is easy to use and will be a game-changer for us when it comes to document management!
Here is our kickoff timeline. Knowing that many of you have already used DocuSign, we are offering multiple ways for you to learn how to use the tool and how it has been designed specifically for CMSD and Special Education.
On Monday, October 19 or Tuesday, October 20…
Activate your DocuSign account!!!
You will receive an activation email for DocuSign on either Monday or Tuesday. Please look for it and check your Clutter/Junk Mail! It will look something like this:
Culture Club Updates
PBIS Matrix
Artemus Ward Students S.O.A.R.
They are Scholarly, Organized, Accountable, Respectful
Below is a sample PBIS matrix that can be used to state expectations using the S.O.A.R. language. The committee did meet and make some slight changes. Please make sure you are referring to S.O.A.R in your communication with students.
Social Emotional Learning
Social Awareness
Last month was Anti-Bullying month as well as Hispanic Heritage Month. This month we are celebrating American-Indian Heritage. This is a great opportunity to tap into one of the SEL Core Competencies. Celebrating other cultures, recognizing the strength in others and taking other’s perspectives are part of Social Awareness. Below are the characteristics of having Social Awareness. You will also find a link for a resource that has Social Awareness activities.
Engagement Team Updates
Reminder: We are asking that teachers do not refer families to come to the school when a tech need arises. Please fill out the Support Form on their behalf or you can direct them to call the school. Although the office is open, the expectation is that families make an appointment.
