This Week
Science: Our energy unit is underway. We have studied Newton’s Three Laws of Motion and next week we will move on to sound and the behavior of sound waves.
Math 5: The students continue their study of geometry, including adjacent and vertical angles; equilateral, isosceles and scalene triangles. A protractor at home would be helpful to practice measuring angles.
Math 6: The students have begun a new unit and are working on beginning algebra work, formulas, and linear graphing. Long division, multiplication work, and exponent work will also continue to be practiced.
Social Studies: The title of our unit of study is Three Worlds Meet. We have explored North America and Africa. We will now be focusing our attention on Europe, the explorers and what happened when these three different worlds met.
Spelling: Our spelling and wordly wise tests were postponed until Monday due to the concert.
Language Arts: We've started a new read aloud book- The Watsons go to Birmingham. We're wrapping up our character study skills as we continue through this shared book. Non-fiction skills will be our next unit of study.
In writing, we're working on persuasive writing. Currently, the students are working on developing an essay in a partnership. They'll move from outlines to paragraphs. Their last assignment will be to write an essay on their own.

Parents from both homerooms have volunteered to organize the breakfast and will need the help of everyone to bring in treats (bagels, muffins, juice, fresh fruit, etc.) for the party. Please look for an email with more information in the next week or so.
