Welcome, Kindergartners!
Updates
Thank you for a great first week!
Best Wishes to Christine and Luis as they “tie the knot” on Friday. We are so happy for you and wish you a lifetime of love and happiness.
We appreciate everyone’s hard work, dedication, time, and energy. You welcomed new students with open arms, made parents feel valued and appreciated and left a wonderful impression on your students. Thank you seems so inadequate. Here’s to another great week.
As you know, our Kindergarteners start today. We need all hands on deck. The K team would greatly appreciate all the help they can get during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal.
All mentors need to complete “first glance” observations this week on BT’s. Thank you for making sure that everything is recorded correctly so Jason and I can begin observations next week. We have 31 to do before October 15. Given that the minimum time to do the first round is around 2-3 hours per teacher, we need to get started. We will try to find a win-win as we schedule these observations but we do need you to try to accommodate our schedules since it is just the two of us up against this deadline.
Cortney has planned a very full and exciting agenda for our Early Release Day. Please report to the media center no later than 1:00 for our afternoon activities.
Thank you for reporting to your specials and lunch on time. Arriving just a few minutes late impacts those who follow you.
I loved seeing all the student-centered work that is already on display in your classrooms. Back to School Curriculum nights are just around the corner. Having work displayed from children is an expectation. More importantly, it is the feeling that a parent gets when they see their child’s work displayed.
The first 10 days of school determine how much money we receive, how many teachers and instructional coaches we have, etc. Please let us know if you know any information about any of your missing children.
The Lighthouse Team and the Data Team members will meet on Thursday in the Imagineering Room beginning at 3:30. We will conclude by 4:30 (if not earlier).
Jason, Cortney Gordon and I, along with a team of Combs’ teachers, will attend the Coaching Training workshop at Central Office on Tuesday. I will be back around 1:00—the rest of the team will be out all day.
Please do not forget to pay your PTA dues—$5.00 and your hospitality dues- $30.00 for certified, $15.00 for non-certified. Please give Hospitality Dues to Lisa Ray and PTA dues to your Lighthouse Team chair.
Mark your calendars now for a Magnet Leadership Event on Tuesday, September 22. Attendance is expected by all A.B. Combs staff. Juley and I are meeting with Jodee this week to iron out the details—including location, etc. More information will be shared as details are ironed out.
As we prepare for the long Labor Day weekend, please make sure that children clean out their desks, no food is left in the room, all blinds are lowered and closed, and all valuables are taken home.
Please plan on having a staff meeting on Tuesday, September 8.
Early Release Day is Friday—Our Combs 101 Assemblies will begin at 8:45 for K-2 students and 9:45 for 3-5 students. Please be seated and ready to go at this time. There are no specials on Early Release Days. The first assembly (8:45) will be covered by kindergarten instructional coaches and specialists. The second assembly (9:45) will be covered by first grade instructional coaches and specialists.
We are always here to help and support. Please let us know if you have any problems/concerns/questions. We are here for you and never want you to be in a difficult situation with a parent without our knowledge or support.
Calendar Correction! There is not a Cultural Arts Assembly on October 30, it is November 6.
