The Eagle Connection
Volume 1- Issue 9 - Week of November 2, 2020
Dear Families,
Please remember that we are close to the end of the 1st Quarter, Thursday, November 5th, 2020 and approaching the first report card of the year. For scholars, time spent completing missed assignments is essential this week. Classroom teachers will be using this week as a reteach/support week to ensure all scholars are provided the opportunity to complete missed assignments, while revisiting content taught during the first quarter. This is a good time to check in with your scholar and email teachers should you have questions about completing assignments. Scholars and parents can check grades using SchoolMax. Please feel free to contact your scholar's teachers if you have any questions about their progress in any of their courses. The teachers contact information can be located on the attached link.
Finally, on behalf of Imagine Foundations at Leeland’s faculty and staff, thank you for your continued support of our scholars and the work we do with them. It is truly the community, parents, and staff, partnering and working together that allows us to maintain the successes we have so long enjoyed at Leeland! As always, if you have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact a teacher, Mrs. Cypress, Mr. Richardson, or me directly. We are here to work together to provide the best possible education for your scholar!

Active Participation During Distance Learning
During distance learning a key component in the learning process is scholar engagement. It is important that scholars are actively engaged with videos on, asking and answering questions, and engaging in the teacher developed task on the selected platform. It has been observed that many scholars do not have their screens on and are browsing websites instead of engaging in instruction (Hapara is a platform adopted by the county that allows teachers and administration access to monitoring scholar web use while logged on to the PGCPS student account). These practices make it extremely hard for teachers to monitor student learning and can negatively impact scholar grades. We ask that you partner with Leeland to reinforce positive scholarly engagement in distance learning, together Leeland Scholars will continue to soar to success during distance learning!

Message from Mrs. Jackson, Professional School Counselor
Dear Eigth Grade Families,
Our virtual school year is off to a great start. Throughout our school year, I will be working closely with you and your scholar. Most of our scholars have completed Naviance lessons.
Naviance is a computer based program that middle, high and college students complete. The lessons include goal setting, career assessments, college assessments and the common college application, required by many colleges and universities. Additionally, I will be available to assist families with their transition to high school. We have several high school events planned this year. I look forward to continually serving you and your scholar.
Kind Regards,
Wendy Morris-Jackson
