PANTHER PROGRESS
October 2023 Issue 3
Message from our administrators
Hello Lincoln Family –
As we wrap-up our first full month of school, our Lincoln staff has been working hard to establish routines and structures, strengthen communications between home and school, increase student accountability, elevate our high expectations with both academics and behavior for each of our 625 students, and analyze recent achievement results to target instruction where skill gaps may be present. Last Thursday, classroom teachers met with their students’ families at our “Learn About Lincoln Night” to discuss the school year and support any questions that families may be pondering. Additionally, any student that is not currently meeting grade level expectations in grades 1-5 will be receiving an interim this week in efforts to provide a “heads-up” so that the teacher and the family can work collaboratively to ensure success and hopefully “make history” with your child’s academic accomplishments this year.
Speaking of “history,” we had the opportUNITY to “honor history” this past Saturday, where we welcomed over 250 members of our Lincoln CommUNITY to celebrate Lincoln’s Centennial! Current and past staff, students, and families, along with previous Lincoln members from the original Lincoln School were in attendance. Whether you’re 9 years old or 90 years old, the festivity honored our extended Lincoln Family and showcased 100 years of the school’s progression through the unveiling of the “Lincoln Legacy Mural” in our cafeteria for all to see and be reminded of the pride and perseverance that Lincoln holds true since 1923. Be proud. Proud of where this school has come from; proud of where it needs to go when it comes to achievement.
Parent teacher conferences will be held from October 11-13, so please connect with your child’s teacher to discuss their progress and how we can collectively take your Panther’s achievement to the next level. Lincoln is committed to this urgency, are you?
Together.
In your service,
Eric Rhodes - Principal
Mary Beth Smith - Assistant Principal

Free and Reduced Meals (FARM) - grace period ends on October 6
Please make sure you are filling out the Free and Reduced Meal (FARM) benefit application to determine if your student qualifies for free or reduced lunch. As a Title I school, we rely on these applications for funding from the federal government. The online application is the preferred method of submission and applications are available in both English and Spanish. The online application is currently open and can be found at this website: LINQConnect.com. For those that do not qualify, the cost of lunch is $2.65 everyday. If you have questions, or need assistance filling out the application, contact Amy Nelson at Amy.Nelson@fcps.org, Diana Galaviz at Diana.Galaviz@fcps.org or Crosby Blair at Crosby.Blair@fcps.org.
*FCPS is no longer using MySchoolBucks. After registering for a LINQConnect account, you can add money to your child's account and check your account balance.
If your student received free or reduced meals last year and you have not yet re-applied, please do so before the grace period ends on October 6th. Your student may start accruing charges after this date if not approved.

The team works closely with students, staff, and families, to grow a learning community where all members are healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged to be their best self. The three major areas of focus at Lincoln are:
Teaching and practicing emotional awareness and emotional regulation
Developing and maintaining healthy relationships, which includes the use of restorative practices to help all members learn to communicate effectively and resolve conflicts in a positive and productive manner.
Instructing students, staff, and families about the role of the brain in learning in order to increase student independence and academic stamina
This website has multiple resources for students and families. It also has videotaped lessons we use with students and parent videos that explain our emotional regulation program.
