Reminder of Pick-Up and Drop-Off Procedures @ John Adams Middle School
Student pick-up and drop-off are two very busy times of day at John Adams! In order to keep all families safe (and to limit frustration), please follow these procedures from 7:45-8:20 and 2:30-until all buses are gone.
Doors open at 7:55 a.m. Students will wait outside until 7:55 a.m.
- Door 1 – Grade 6
- Door 2 – Grade 7
- Door 9 – Grade 8
Students then enter the building and go to their classrooms. The main circle/turn around near the main entrance is reserved for buses ONLY before/after school.
If you drive your child to John Adams, refer to the diagram (above) to understand expected traffic patterns. Cars entering/dropping off students should enter the parking lot on the east side of the building in the entrance only and let students out at the curb side of the parking lot next to the building. At the end of day, buses will utilize the curb area on 31st Street all the way to the stop sign on 18th Ave. Handicap parking is available in the front of the John Adams parking lot.
When waiting for your child after school, please be aware that other cars are arriving and leaving behind you. Good drop off and pick up areas are marked with a star on the map.
CAUTION. We work diligently to get all students to use the crosswalk. Unfortunately this does not always happen. Be alert to students who may be crossing outside of crosswalks!
Inclement Weather Announcements
Message from the School Nurse's Office
All students with symptoms of illness should go through the Health Office before leaving the building. If your student contacts you to pick them up for any complaints of “not feeling well,” please instruct them to notify their teacher that they need to see the nurse.
Our health office nurse will then contact the parent with the student’s temperature and symptoms. Parents can then decide if the student will be picked up from school.
Proper Clothing for Cold Weather Days
We care about your children and want them to be happy and comfortable playing outside during their lunch/recess. As we know, Minnesota weather can change very quickly. As we move into winter, we have many kids without the proper clothing for cold weather days.
Please make sure your student has a winter coat and a warm hat and gloves in their backpack for recess. We encourage students to go outside and get exercise and play, daily. If you are in need of any winter gear please let the office know, and we will find them items to make their year more comfortable and enjoyable on the playground.
Also a HUGE thank you, again, to the PTSA and all that donated towards JA playground equipment and board games.
Families: If you have any new or used board games/playing cards/coloring books, you would be willing to donate for indoor recess days please have your child drop them off in the Success Room (Mr. Dahl's/Mrs. McPeak's; room #138). Your student will be rewarded with paw points.
Communicate by Calling or Entering Early Pick-up into Skyward
- Parents need to report the reason for an early pick-up and the time they need to be dismissed.
- Parents need to submit an absence request when their child is leaving early for sports. This is for safety reasons, so we know that parents are aware and that they give permission for their child to be dismissed early.
- This can be entered in Skyward or called into our attendance line or main line.
- We will update the attendance, if necessary, and provide a pass to the student.
- The student will wait inside the building at Door 1, at the time listed on their pass.
- When the student's ride arrives, they walk out.
- If returning to school after appointment, check into the main office.
