Standards Based Reporting
Most recently, it was shared during last week's Back-to-School-Nights that Central Bucks has revised the elementary curriculum over the past years to better reflect state and district standards. Beginning this year, our district will adopt a standards-based reporting system. Through this system, students and parents will receive more specific information than traditional letter grades, and reports how well students are progressing towards achieving the standards expected at each grade level.
In an effort to provide parents with additional, very useful information. Please click here to view the Standards Based Reporting Parent Handbook.
Additionally, a 5th grade math unit assessment cover page has been made available for preview. This cover page will accompany your child's routine math assessment when it is sent home. Please click here to view the cover page.
Gayman Volunteer Opportunities
Hello Parents,
We are still in need of volunteers for various committees. In some cases, we still need a Chair and/or Co-Chair, and in other cases we need volunteers to help the Chair and Co-Chair.
Please consider signing up as a Chair or volunteer on one of the committees.
Thanks in advance!

Rowan's Helping Heart 1st Annual Golf Outing
Our son, Rowan, was born April 6, 2009 with an unexpected, rare chromosome defect. Due to this, he had open heart surgery at 8 weeks old, feeding tube, cleft palate surgery at 11 months old, hernia surgery, as well as 8 sets of ear tubes. Currently, Rowan attends Gayman Elementary School in a special needs learning support kindergarten program. He is improving greatly, yet surfacing are developmental concerns such as autism & add. CHOP told my husband and I “they are learning from Rowan as to what his future will hold.” No one is going to be a bigger advocate for Rowan than us. 100% of the proceeds from “Rowan’s Helping Heart” will go to CHOP for Genetic Research. We are hopeful they WILL discover what causes these “fluke” chromosome mutations in so many kids these days. You can learn more about Rowan’s story or how to donate by visiting his CHOP website:

Handwriting Club In Need Of Volunteers
Lisa Hinkel, Occupational Therapist, will be conducting a training session on Thursday, September 18th, at 12:00 for parents interested in working directly with students to help improve handwriting and small motor skills. Once trained, volunteers will be contacted directly by classroom teachers to work with one or two students for 10-15 minutes on a weekly or twice weekly basis. Materials are provided. Our parent volunteers have been an invaluable resource to both students and teachers. Even if you have already attended a training session in the past and wish to continue volunteering, please plan to attend this training as a helpful refresher. Please contact Suzanne Vass @svass@cbsd.org if you are interested in attending the training session. Thank you!
CB Cares
CB Cares Educational Foundation is a community coalition of individuals, businesses, and agencies, whose goal is to promote positive values, attitudes, and behaviors, particularly in our community's youth. For over 18 years our mission has been to engage, empower, and link individuals and organizations to meet this end. The framework for CBCEFs' programs and initiatives is the 40 Developmental Assets (see below for the September Boomerang Award).

Boomerang Award for September
This year, Gayman will continue to accept nominations for the Boomerang Award, which is our way of honoring students who best demonstrate their own developmental assets. What are Developmental Assets? Students possessing a combination of “40 Assets” are typically most successful in school and in life. These assets have the power to influence choices young people make and help them become caring, responsible adults. For a complete listing of the 40 Developmental Assets visit: www. Search-institute.org.
September: #20 - Time at Home. Young person spends time most days in high quality interactions with family. They might share the importance of family experiences and relationships in the school setting.
