Live School - Spend, Donate, or Invest
Last Friday, students learned about the stock market and had the opportunity to connect with Mr. Paddock from the Federal Reserve Bank.
Today, students had the option of donating their remaining points to their house or they could choose a stock to invest them in (their invested points will be donated in May and will reflect either a growth or loss due to their investment).
If interested, please watch the 3 minute video below to learn about the house competition and how students managed their points to close out the quarter.

PACE - Pirates' After Class Events
For those of you who don't know me, my name is Gabe Middleton and I am the District Activities Director. I am contacting you about our new PACE (Pirate After Class Events) program that we will kick off in each middle school starting the 2nd quarter of this school year. PACE will be available to all 6th, 7th and 8th grade students.
Tyler Crawford is our PACE Coordinator, and he will be working with you and your students to get this program up and running.
I am including some very basic details in this email, but please take some time to review the slideshow and watch the video linked below. Students, your teachers will be showing you this video at school. The slideshow and video will explain the details of the PACE activities and provide dates each activity is offered.
After watching the video, please click on the form below to sign your kids up to attend PACE. Students can sign up for one activity per day. When you sign up, please make sure you select each date that your child will be attending throughout 2nd quarter. If you need to make any changes, please contact Tyler (crawfort@platteco.k12.mo.us).
On the form you will need to indicate your desired mode of transportation. After reviewing the transportation information from those who sign up, we will determine whether or not the District will be able to provide transportation home and communicate that information directly with those who have signed up. At this time we will be able to provide transportation to the first 25 students who sign up for PACE.

SOS Parent Letter (Repeat)
Dear Platte County R-3 Parent or Guardian,
The adolescent years are marked by a roller-coaster ride of emotions, which can be difficult for both students and their parents. It is easy to misread depression as normal adolescent turmoil; however, depression (among the most common of mental illnesses) does occur in some adolescents. Depression is also a leading risk for suicide.
To proactively address student mental health concerns, PCR-3 is once again offering depression awareness and suicide prevention training as a part of the Signs of Suicide (SOS) Prevention Program. This program aims to help students recognize the symptoms of depression and warning signs of suicide in themselves or their friends, and to teach them the appropriate action steps they should take to get help. SOS is listed on Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices. In a randomized control study, the SOS High School Program showed a reduction in self-reported suicide attempts by 40% (BMC Public Health, July 2007).
Our goals in participating in this program are straightforward:
To reduce stigma and help our students understand that depression is a treatable mental illness.
To explain that suicide is a preventable tragedy that often occurs as a result of untreated depression.
To provide students training in how to identify serious depression and potential suicidality in themselves or a friend.
To impress upon youth that they can help themselves or a friend by taking the simple step of talking to a responsible adult about their concerns.
To help students know whom in the school they can turn to for help, if they need it.
During the fall of 2021, PCR-3 middle and high school students will participate in the SOS School Program. This program includes a video, a brief classroom discussion, and completion of a brief questionnaire to offer support if needed. If you would like to learn more about the SOS School Program, you are welcome to visit the SOS Link for Parents: https://sossignsofsuicide.org/parent/watch-videos.
If you do NOT wish for your child to participate in the SOS Program, please complete THIS FORM by Friday October 29th.
If you have questions about the implementation of this program, please contact Dr. Beutel, Executive Director of Pupil Services at 816.858.5420, ext 2201 or beutelj@platteco.k12.mo.us.

We also ask that you sign up prior to 2 pm on the day of academic lab. This helps us stay organized with regard to room placement and transportation.
Academic Lab (Repeat)
We will pay students 2 points in Live School to stay and work on improving by completing homework, missing assignments, retaking assessments, etc. We are also recruiting students to stay and serve as mentors as well. Those students can either earn community service hours or also get paid in Live School.
Please use the Google Form below to sign up your child to get extra help via Academic Lab each time you want them to stay.
