New Families/Kindergarten Information

Getting Started at Washington Elementary...

The days on the calendar keep ticking by... as we all prepare for August with our little ones here are a few things you may like to know.

Updates will continue each week...stay tuned...
please note that information from the Principal's Office will be sent out to you during the second week of August. Keep an eye out for that as well.

Play Dates for Our Incoming Kinders

Please Join Us!

  • Beginning the week of July 21st we will have regular drop-in playdates. Please meet us on the schoolyard. The children may choose to use the Kinder play structure or the "Big Toy" (a special treat since it is for grades 1-5 during the school-year).
    1. every Thursday evening from 5:30PM - 7:00PM (7/24, 7/31, 8/7, 8/14, 8/21) and
    2. select Sunday afternoons from 3:30PM - 5:00PM (7/27, 8/10, 8/17)
    • On Thursday evenings, please feel free to bring a "picnic" dinner or have your pizza delivered to the campus. The outdoor seating is plentiful- you and your new student are welcome to dine at the Kindergarten Tables or the 'Big Kids" zone, known as the "Cat Cafe" (pic). This is another great opportunity to help your child get accustomed to the new environment (and sitting at tables while at school).

Things To Know...

Please make sure all required immunization records, physician and dental exam reports are turned in to the office before the first day of school, August 26.

The office is open 8:30 – 12:30 until July 18 and will reopen August 11.

801 Howard Ave

Burlingame, CA

Please join us in the Kindergarten Yard (Anita Rd entrance) for a Tasty Treat and a little Refreshment as a Kick-Off event for the new academic year!

This is an Annual Event brought to you by the PTA for all new Families on the Friday before school starts.
A great Ice-Breaker....with ice cream!

First Days of School

The First Day of School is Tuesday, August 26!
ALL Kinders will attend from 8:30AM - 12:00PM (NOON).
  • Assessments will take place in the afternoons during this week.
  • You may sign-up for these once you have received your child's classroom assignment.
  1. The assessments last about 30 minutes.
  2. Most kids enjoy having this personal session with their new teacher. This is not scary. It is a chance for the Classroom Teacher to get a little one-on-one time with your child in an effort to better determine areas of strength and areas that need focused effort. This assessment directly informs the instruction in the classroom.
  3. They may be asked to write, to count, to "read", to sort, etc.
