Our Path Note Topic
We are very excited about the progress the First Choice Development Teams are making to ensure that every learner leaves WASD prepared for future opportunities. On November 11, several of the teams will be sharing current progress and asking for your input to help keep the projects on track and moving in the right direction.
- The Career Team will be seeking input on WASD Essential Skills and sharing plans for the first annual Elementary Career Fair.
- The Whole Child Team will be sharing an overview of the 16 Habits of Mind and how they fit into the overall goal of the whole child dimension of First Choice.
- The TRAiIL Team will be seeking feedback about instructional protocols you use in your classroom (things like Whip Around, Turn and Talk, Jigsaw groups).
- The Academic Team will be working with the elementary teachers to do an elementary curriculum audit, similar to what was already done with secondary teachers.
We are hopeful that you will be energized by these presentations and able to give us valuable feedback to continue the forward progress in WASD!

Piece of the Puzzle
This Week's Piece of the Puzzle is Keith McCray. Keith, our elementary education technology specialist, has taken on the responsibility of doing a WASD elementary roadshow to showcase the potential of sphero robotics on the elementary level. The use of Sphero Robotics requires students to demonstrate the ability to plan, use inquiry questions, communicate information and evaluate success in all subject matters. The use of Spheros also adds in the science concepts, math concepts and language concepts that make up coding and robotics in a highly interactive and engaging manner. Keith was part of a team of Fairview teachers who applied for a WABEC mini grant and as a result of their work their sphero robotics proposal will be available in all the elementary buildings due to a generous WABEC grant. Keith has also taken on the lead role in facilities at the LIU technology lending library that will allow WASD to borrow technology from the LIU for classroom application. Thank you Keith for all your hard work in facilitating educational technology K-5 in all our schools!
Congratulations to Keith for being this week's Piece of the Puzzle!!

Can you answer this?
Challenge Answer
Although the budget process never ends, most school districts begin looking at the next school year's budget preliminarily in the fall. WASD is in the planning process this month. Budget committee meetings will begin soon. There are specific deadlines districts must meet throughout the process.
