New Information for the 2021-2022 Late Bird Program
Watertown Community Education is pleased to announce that our Late Bird Program will run in-person for the 2021-2022 school year! In preparation, please be sure to read this important information in its entirety.
Your student must meet the eligibility criteria to participate in this program.
Eligibility Criteria: The Late Bird Program is an offering available to Watertown Public Schools (WPS) families that have a student or students enrolled at the Cunniff, Hosmer or Lowell Elementary Schools AND a student or students enrolled at Watertown Middle (WMS) or Watertown High School (WHS) who will be serving as the primary pick up person for their elementary school sibling. The intent of this program is to provide a safe care option for elementary students who are waiting to be picked up by their older sibling attending WMS or WHS (after school is dismissed). This program was developed in order to address the change in WPS start and end times effective September 2018 that shifted dismissal times for grades 6-12 to a later time than the K-5 grades. WPS employees are also eligible to participate in this program. The program runs from 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm daily. *Important: Please note that the Late Bird Program is not available on early release days.
Registration for the Late Bird Program will open on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at 9:00 AM. Our initial Late Bird Program registration period will remain open through 10:00 PM on Tuesday, July 20, 2021. We will assess the number of registrations received during the initial registration period. If we can immediately confirm space for all registered students, we will do so and parents will be notified they have a confirmed space on or before Friday, July 23, 2021. If we receive more registrations than we can accommodate, we will hold a lottery Monday, July 26, 2021, to place students. Registrations received after 10:00 PM on Tuesday, July 20th will automatically be placed on a waitlist. WPS staff members registering their students for this program will not be subject to the lottery if a lottery is needed so long as they register their students by the 10:00 PM deadline on Tuesday, July 20th.
Tuition for the Late Bird Program increased for the 2021-2022 school year. The cost is $714.00 for the school year.
Important message for Lowell School Late Bird families: Lowell School families who have students with confirmed enrollment in the 2021-2022 Late Bird Program will continue to have a confirmed space in our Late Bird Program when construction begins in February 2022. Please note that at this time we cannot confirm if the Extended Day Program will run in two separate locations (Lowell West and the Phillips Building) or if some or all students will be bussed to another location for Late Bird. These details will be communicated to families by January 17, 2022. Either way, your student’s enrollment in our Late Bird Program will continue through the full 2021-2022 school year.
