Welcome to Mrs. Malloy!

We are so happy to welcome Mrs Maureen Malloy to Hannum School! Mrs Malloy, is our new school nurse and come to us with quite a bit of pediatric experience. Her most recent position was as a nurse in a. pediatric doctors office. We are absolutely thrilled to have someone with Mrs Malloy's experience join our staff. Next time you are in the office make sure you say hi!

LATE START TOMORROW!!

Tomorrow September 1st is our first late start of the school year. School does not begin until 9:30am and please do not drop students off until 9:15am. The staff will be in meetings until 9:15/9:20 and will not be available to supervise your children. There is no breakfast in the morning, but FLASH will still be available at 7:00am as usual.

Drop Off and Pick Up

Every year I have to send out reminders about traffic around our school. Please, Please, Please do not drop students off on the opposite curb from where school is and walking them across. This holds up the line, but is also dangerous. I see it happen constantly and while we'd like to think that drivers are being careful when they drive around our school, it isn't always the case. We don't want your child to be in a tragic accident.

If you are picking up your child from K or 1. You cannot park in the driveway of St Germaine! I understand that your access to the parking lot has been denied due to the construction that is going on, but we have never been allowed to park in their driveway. Please park on the street in the allowable areas or even walk when it s nice day. We are trying to keep everyone safe and while it may take a few more minutes, isn't that time worth someone's life? The driveway is reserved for emergency vehicles and while I know it will only be a few minutes, that is also not our property and they can ban us if we continue to have problems as it is a private lot.

CoVid Information

Almost all states around us are on the updated travel advisory. https://cookcountypublichealth.org/communicable-diseases/covid-19/covid-19-travel-guidance/

If you travel to and spend at least 24 hours at a state on the list then your child must quarantine for 7-10 days. A child can get a PCR test 2-3 days after returning and when given a negative result can return to school. 10 days if you do not wish to be tested and have no symptoms.

I am aware that this is an incredible inconvenience and I do not want to be the travel police either, but we have to do what we can to keep our kids as safe as possible. Going out of state and not reporting it to us, could lead to positive cases within our school.

Families will be notified if their child is found to have been in close contact with a CoVid positive case at school. Close contact is if your child is within 3 feet of this person for more than 15 minutes without a mask. The only time they would be considered close contact would be at lunch when students have masks off. The remainder of the school day, students have masks on. Mask breaks are less than 15 minutes.

If your child is found to be a close contact then they will have to quarantine for a period of time. More information will be given to you regarding your particular circumstances.

When students are quarantined, they will be given work for someone to pick up in the foyer of school. There will be a Hannum teacher online from 3:30-4:30 to assist with students that are home due to quarantine and are struggling with their work.

We had a very successful year last year with our case count, but as we know...we have all the students back now, so I would expect that we will have more cases, but if everyone follows the rules we can "stop the spread."

MAP testing

Yesterday, our students will began taking the MAP test, which is the universal screener that our district uses to keep track of where our students are academically in literacy and math. This test is not timed and is an adaptive test. Depending on how students answer the questions either get easier or harder to arrive at a "score". Results will be sent home after the window closes in a few weeks.
