Kraft Class Update

Please find the read-a-thon forms in Friday Folders. Reading and recording of minutes will continue through April 24. May 2 will be the last day to complete paperwork and pledge money. The goal is for each student to read for 30 minutes every day, making the overall class goal 3,800 minutes. We can do it! See flyer to learn more.

backwards day

Students had fun participating in backwards day today!

DEB time is great for all the first grade students to work with first graders in other classroom at their ability level to best meet their needs. After a few weeks those groups rotate teachers/classroom. This week we switched groups and to celebrate all groups performed a reader's theater!

Scholastic News: Habitats

Habitats was the topic in Scholastic News. The four habitats discussed were rain forest, desert, swamp, and mountain. Next week we will continue studying habitats and do a little research.

Writing: Editing

This week to took out our red pens and edited our work. We used the check list in the picture to help steer our focus. We looked for spelling, capital/lower case letter, and punctuation errors. We liked making those corrections with a red pen!

Math: 2-digit addition (without regrouping)

This week we focused on adding two digit numbers (without regrouping). We first read the problem. Then we drew a picture (using tens and ones) for each number. Next we added the ones. Lastly we added up the tens.

Next week we will practice the same skill and add the challenge of "regrouping ten ones for one group of ten".

2nd Step: Apologizing

When we make a mistake or poor choice, we need to apologize and take responsibility for our actions. We practiced using 3 steps using a kind and caring voice to successfully make an apology.

1. say what happened

2. say sorry

3. say how to make things right

Thank you, Mrs. Ross, for coming in to talk to us about apologizing!

Buddy Time

Our buddies helped us work out more two-digit addition problems. Thanks for helping us, buddies!
