Hello Rabbit Creek Families,
We completed our Winter benchmarks in December in grades K-6 and have had the opportunity to review data for instructional decision making in January. There have been changes to groupings of students for both the reading blocks and WIN groups as a result. Rabbit Creek has a number of students who are continuing to build the skills necessary in reading for success. We are focusing on mastery of letter sounds, long and short vowels, r controlled vowels, syllables, the reading of multisyllabic words and much more in lessons across the building. Being able to read the words is the first step, with comprehension unable to happen until afterwards. The link here provides great ideas on how to best support younger students with learning to read. https://www.splashlearn.com/blog/easy-steps-to-teach-kids-to-read/
Our 3rd grade students attended a wonderful field trip this week to the Anchorage Museum and our sixth grade classes are headed to tour Goldenview next week. We also have students in our three self contained classrooms heading to Alyeska in the coming weeks to ski with Challenge Alaska. The Spelling Bee and Science Fair are just around the corner as well. It's been a great start to January with our students here at school and we look forward to a wonderful rest of the second semester!

Battle of the Books update from Mrs. Barnes
Students in 3-6 grade have worked hard this year to prepare for Battle of the Books. These students have read multiple books and attended weekly practices since early November. Last week we held our campus battles after school in the library and two teams from each grade level will represent our school at the district battle next week. I am very proud of all the work our students have put into preparing and practicing for this event.

The Book Bears: Rebecca Allan, Colby Rogness, Henry Sharp, & Teslin Moon
The Booket Heads: Samantha Langlie, Audrey Miranda, Isabel Camm, Henry Lemelson
