From Mr. Lucita

Another “First” happened this week and we can’t wait to share! The Johnson High School Band had its first student earn a position in the TMEA Region 18 Orchestra. Parker Taylor earned a position in this incredible group! There will be a free concert open to the public should any parents or students like to attend. The TMEA Region MS and HS Orchestra Concerts will begin at 4:00 PM on Saturday, November 16th at the Austin ISD Performing Arts Center.

We would also like to recognize the hard work and effort from our other JHS Band members that auditioned for this prestigious group and represented our band program at the very highest level! Congratulations also go out to Hannah Beldon, Jacob Hooks, Aidan Kroeger, Travis Miller, Noah Mugan, Antonio Musgrove, Ivan Silva, and Angela Song! These students have worked very hard and are setting the stage for the future success of our band.

We are now starting after school rehearsals for our concert bands. Wind Ensemble will be 4:30-6:00 PM on Mondays. Wind Symphony date and times will be announced soon. These rehearsals allow us to integrate our percussionist into the wind sections as we begin preparations for the Winter Concert that is happening on Thursday, December 12th at the Hays PAC.

Winter Guard camps/clinics are coming soon! Any student interested in Winter Guard should see Mr. Duffy. Winter Guard is open to all students! There is no experience required and students outside of band are welcome to join as well. Help spread the word.

Let’s continue our musical journey as these new events and opportunities arise!

How To Sign Up For Remind 101

Remind 101 is a communication option used by lots of teachers and clubs. Once signed up, you can either get the app and look at your messages in the app or you can receive the messages as a text message (or both).

To sign up for Remind 101 for band notifications:

  1. Send a text message to 81010 (enter this number where you would enter the phone number)
  2. The message will be @jagband19 (type this where you would type your text message)
  3. Hit "send"
  4. If you did this successfully, you will receive a text informing you that you signed up for the band remind messages.

Signing up for Remind for other clubs or classes will be similar. You will always send a text to 81010 but what you type into the text box will be different. For example, for an English class, it might be @smithsenglishclass.
