Quick Updates
- Winter MAP testing will be Thursday, January 9th for reading and Friday, January 17th for math on the computer. I will share and discuss scores with you at parent teacher conferences in February. Please be sure to have your child get a good night's sleep, eat breakfast and send in a water bottle.
- Please send snow pants, boots, hats and mittens everyday. It is also a good idea to have in their backpack an extra pair of dry socks and mittens. Make sure all winter apparel are labeled.
- If you need to send in cough drops, please fill out the form that is linked below and send it to school. I will then keep the cough drops on my desk and dispense as needed.

Reading
We will be assessing reading levels soon to rearrange groups and bump the hard working students up a few levels. Stay tuned to for more information as the date and details get organized.
The next few weeks will be using the book dictionaries to find words, learn about the definition, part of language, and guide words. Then we will transition our skills to an online dictionary website, dictionary.com.
Writing
Today, the students created a snowman. They will use these snowmen to write a descriptive piece. The second graders will need to add alliteration (repetitive beginning sounds), onomatopoeia (sound words), and similes (comparisons using like or as) to the description. After reviewing these skills, they will begin writing mid next week.
Math
Next week we will finish up unit 3 in math and assess it. The unit 3 assessment will be on measurement and geometric shapes.
Unit 4 will be counting money and two digit subtraction with and without regrouping.
