A Note from Dr. Brown
Greetings Parents and Guardians!
Thanks for another wonderful week! If your child is in 3rd-5th grades, please ask them about the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) cart that came around with small treats this week! We are treating grades Kindergarten-2nd next week. Just a small way for us to show how much we care for our students and to also promote continued positive behavior.
If you have small children-birth to five years old, please bring them for Play 2 Learn classes every Wednesday morning. Please email Ms. Lyndsey Cann for more information.
Remember, I am always here for our Woodward Mill family. Communication is key. Feel free to email or call with concerns or questions.
Your Thankful Principal,
Dr. Brown

Character Trait of the Month
Each month, we focus on a different character trait. The character trait for the month of January is Citizenship. Citizenship means trying to make the school and community a better place. Citizenship is an important character trait for our students to exhibit, as we are all a part of a community. Teachers will be looking for students that exhibit this trait during January to be recognized as the “Cub of the Month” with a certificate and free ice cream!
SEL Parent Night
Thank you to the families that participated in the SEL Parent Night on January 17th. We are so thankful to be able to serve our community, and help our students and families. The presentation and additional resources will be available on the website soon. Click the link below to review a recording of the information shared during SEL Parent Night.
College and Career Day
We haven't been able to host this event in years, but this year our College and Career Day is scheduled for March 31st. This day will give students the opportunity to learn about nearby colleges and careers from individuals that can speak first-hand about their daily experiences. No book can teach them that!
We would love for you to come to our College and Career Day! The actual event is 8:30am-10:30am. Please let us know if you would like to speak to our students. You can email Chavonne O’Rear at chavonne.orear@gcpsk12.org for more information or to volunteer.
Book Fair Time!
Mark your calendars for February 27 - March 3! Plan to bring your family to shop during the early release afternoons of March 1 and March 2. More details about this event will be shared in next week’s Friday newsletter!
We are in need of book fair volunteers to support this literacy event. If you are interested in helping at the book fair, please fill out the form below. Thanks for your support!
Spotlight on Georgia Picture Book Nominees
It Fell From The Sky by The Fan Brothers
All the insects agree that the object that fell from the sky is a Wonder, but when Spider decides it is his, he risks losing all of his friends. This beautifully illustrated story teaches important life lessons about greed and the importance of sharing.
January 1-31, 2023
It’s time to cozy up with a good book! Be sure to read and log at least 300 minutes during the month of January!
Students will login to Beanstack using their GCPS student number and their birthday month and date (MMDD) as their password. Students are able to log reading minutes either on their laptop or on a mobile device.
Refer to the media center link of the school website for helpful resources to get your child started with Beanstack. Contact Jennifer.Alden@gcpsk12.org if you have any questions about this digital reading program.
