Mrs. Lee's Weekly Update
Off to a Great Start
It has only been a week, but these kids have transitioned beautifully into 1st grade. We are working hard at building a classroom community of caring, respectful learners. Each week you will receive a weekly update on happenings in our class, as well as, important dates to remember. Also, all school communication goes home on Wednesdays. This information will come home in your child's daily folder, not a separate folder. Please take these items out each Wednesday.

Our Learning
In Reading and Writing Workshops, we have been establishing routines. This includes how to learn during a mini-lesson, what is conferencing, and how to sustain reading and writing for an extended period of time. In Shared Reading, our class is really enjoying the Mrs. Wishy Washy big books. We are making predictions, taking picture walks to help with comprehension, and practicing fluency. In Math, we have taken a Math Walk around the school and noticed that math is everywhere! We are gathering data, organizing it into graphs, and interpreting the data. We are learning all about ourselves and our families in Social Studies.
Guided Reading Begins Next Week
We have spent all week getting into a routine so that we can begin Guided Reading next week. Please be on the lookout for the Guided Reading bag coming home each night. There will be a letter with an explanation of what to do with your child each night. This is the most important part of First Grade. Please make time each day to listen to your child read.
