PBS: Your Learning Neighborhood
Educator Guide
Your Learning Neighborhood!
Pennsylvania PBS is starting the new school year by expanding our theme of Learning at Home to Your Learning Neighborhood!
Your local Pennsylvania PBS station supports the learning needs of children and families throughout the commonwealth, and we recognize that learning occurs everywhere: at home, at school, and in your community.
When you are Learning at Home, we connect you to thousands of hours of educational and entertaining videos, activities, and games for preschoolers through high school.
When you are Learning at School, we support teachers and caregivers with resources that align with state standards.
We also connect you to free events and activities where you can Learn in Your Community.
A YEAR IN REVIEW OF OUR PARTNERSHIP
Offline Learning Project: High Flyers!
The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), in partnership with the Public
Broadcasting Service (PBS) and the Pennsylvania Intermediate Units (IUs) developed a variety of
offline solutions to support Teaching and Learning, Equity and Access, and Student Wellness and Safety.
The primary goal of the project was to ensure statewide access to offline direct instruction and content materials for families that do not have quality internet access. In focusing on equitable access, diverse populations were served through the various projects’ focus areas: students with disabilities, early intervention, and preschool students, English language learners, low socioeconomic populations, as well as areas without internet access and/or no technology.
Riverview IU #6 Educational Department, worked in partnership with WQED, For The Win Robotics, PA Rural Robotics, and Tuscarora IU #11 to provide the necessary teacher professional development and resources to prepare teachers to deliver both synchronous and asynchronous instruction.
12 educators were accepted into the grant program:
- DuBois Area SD
- DuBois Central Catholic
- Jefferson Technology Center
- Oil City SD
- Redbank Valley SD
- Titusville Area SD
- Penn State 4-H Extension
- Girls Excelling in Math and Science (GEMS) Club
