About Léon Foucault

He was born in Paris, France and he was French physicist. His first pendulum was made on the roof of the Pantheon in Paris. The reason for the pendulum is to show people the rotation of earth on its axis. His second major experiment was to measure the speed of light.

The significance of the pendulum is to help us understand the earths rotation and this is a break through in science because everyone though the earth was flat and so with the pendulum we know the earth isn't flat.

The gravity of the earth pulls the bob (the weight of the pendulum) making it follow the rotation of the earth.
